This is just me being an amateur psychologist. IANAP, but, Devin strikes me as very much wanting to make people happy, to have them like his work, and, at the same time, fearing that rejection of his work. This is why so much of his work has that "middle finger" in it. But, as he has gotten older, much of the anger has left as he has grown more comfortable with himself. He still worries, however, that people won't like it. But, it's gotten easier to shrug that off and do what makes him happy.
What I'm getting at is that, at least for me, I think this album will be wonderful. I think it will be beautiful, sublime, layered, intricate, simple, and very contradictory. I think it will be too good to appeal to many people. (SAY WHAT?) I mean to say, Devin's music is usually too complicated to be pigeon-holed. It doesn't fit into a neat genre. Is it metal? Rock? Ambient? It defies genre in a lot of ways. His most commercial song, Ih-Ah! should have been, could have been a hit. But, how do you market it? It's not like the rest of the album. And, the rest of the album isn't like much else.
There is also something deceptive about Dev's music, to me. I almost never "get" it on the first listen. I bought "Accelerated Evolution" on a whim. I listened to it a couple times but didnt like it a lot. Until the sixth, or so, listen. Then, it hit me hard and I adored that album. Listened to it repeatedly. This pattern repeated itself with Ocean Machine, Terria, Physiscist, Infinity, Synchestra, and so on. I didn't like Ghost much when I first heard it. But, now I like it a lot.
I think Dev worries too much. I think he obsesses over this stuff. I think this album is going to kick so much ass. I have supported him for some time now and will continue to do so. I bought the DTP box set for no other reason than because I admire him and wish to support his endeavors. I don't even listen to it. Devin stresses like this over all of his albums, if I recall correctly. He said similar things prior to Ghost, I think.
You know, all I really mean to say is that Devin makes screamingly good music all the time (except for Devlab and The Hummer which were interesting, at least) and I have no doubt that Epicloud will continue in that vein. Also, I love his music and hope he makes music for many years to come. Also, I am a Dev-nerd. Also, I talk a lot when I get giddy with excitement.

Looping green and blue, and you will go letting yourself certainly the meal once again through the head. But after the departure, you feel free and happily like after your first orgasm - and you will beg for addition. - German review of SYL's "Alien"
