The time has come to forget all the bullshit and ROCK!

This is just me being an amateur psychologist. IANAP, but, Devin strikes me as very much wanting to make people happy, to have them like his work, and, at the same time, fearing that rejection of his work. This is why so much of his work has that "middle finger" in it. But, as he has gotten older, much of the anger has left as he has grown more comfortable with himself. He still worries, however, that people won't like it. But, it's gotten easier to shrug that off and do what makes him happy.

What I'm getting at is that, at least for me, I think this album will be wonderful. I think it will be beautiful, sublime, layered, intricate, simple, and very contradictory. I think it will be too good to appeal to many people. (SAY WHAT?) I mean to say, Devin's music is usually too complicated to be pigeon-holed. It doesn't fit into a neat genre. Is it metal? Rock? Ambient? It defies genre in a lot of ways. His most commercial song, Ih-Ah! should have been, could have been a hit. But, how do you market it? It's not like the rest of the album. And, the rest of the album isn't like much else.

There is also something deceptive about Dev's music, to me. I almost never "get" it on the first listen. I bought "Accelerated Evolution" on a whim. I listened to it a couple times but didnt like it a lot. Until the sixth, or so, listen. Then, it hit me hard and I adored that album. Listened to it repeatedly. This pattern repeated itself with Ocean Machine, Terria, Physiscist, Infinity, Synchestra, and so on. I didn't like Ghost much when I first heard it. But, now I like it a lot.

I think Dev worries too much. I think he obsesses over this stuff. I think this album is going to kick so much ass. I have supported him for some time now and will continue to do so. I bought the DTP box set for no other reason than because I admire him and wish to support his endeavors. I don't even listen to it. Devin stresses like this over all of his albums, if I recall correctly. He said similar things prior to Ghost, I think.

You know, all I really mean to say is that Devin makes screamingly good music all the time (except for Devlab and The Hummer which were interesting, at least) and I have no doubt that Epicloud will continue in that vein. Also, I love his music and hope he makes music for many years to come. Also, I am a Dev-nerd. Also, I talk a lot when I get giddy with excitement.

Regarding Ih Ah!, Dev released Addicted! before he began working with Nothern Music, they've done a shitload of work pushing Decon and Ghost (Juular's got like half a million views on Youtube as it is), you could have the best record in the world that everyone will love, but no one will hear it unless it's marketed properly by the right people. It doesn't even matter what the rest of the record sounded like though. The album is incredibly commercial, which may alienate some fans and gain new fans from a different scene, but hopefully with NMC backing him all the way; Epicloud will be very successful.

Oh! That make sense. I thought the management change happened before Addicted and Ki. Interesting. I had noticed that there did seem to be a more coherent push behind Dev's music lately, but I didn't know it began with Decon. Thanks for pointing that out! :D

I have a feeling that if pushed just right this album will explode. This is the album management and the label hace been asking for, they better not blow it.

At the very least it will emphasize that Devin's music has something for everyone. But hopefully it will help garner a larger fanbase.

Yeah. I think that album will be the next big step for the Dev. His comeback with the DTP was a huge step but I think Epicloud is gonna be it. New marketing team (or whatever you call it) + a pop record = something that people will hear, like which will then make them go check out the Dev's other stuff !

So uh, I was expecting poppier than that. Cool. Though I would've been cool with poppier as well.

I thought this record was going to be scream free? I hear some definite screams there (not that that's a bad thing :D ). Sounds awesome and heavier than I expected (also not a bad thing).

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUFUUUUUFFFFFFUUUFUUUUU...

The Queen-ish vocal harmonies at the start fit the name rather nicely... EPIC!

2:30 to 4:36 is just the shit, I can't wait to to hear the finished version. :luigi:
