because you expected metal?

Nah, not with a name like Metallica.

Names mean nothing! SYL = Metal? Pantera?...all the same...i think those albums are amazing. I didn't contrast them with their previous works...

The albums are your opinion and I respect that, but come on! Of course names mean something. You aren't going to see Metal Church put out an R&B album! Nor are you going to see Angel Corpse put out a country album. Not all names correspond to the music (though Pantera does mean panther which is a vicious cat, so there's no reason that can't be metal) but some names advertise what you get. Not to mention that Metallica did nothing but shape the future of metal music with their prior albums. So they had a history of metal, metal in their name and their fans were metalheads. That's a recipe for METAL!!!! :string: Instead, we got marginal hard rock. Oh well, it's not like this argument hasn't been beaten to death and hung to dry for years and years at this point. No sense in getting too worked up. :D

Metallica were one of the first bands that i started to listen too when i got into metal, but over the years my passion for the band has died. The first song i ever heard from them was Enter Sandman, and with that i started my dying passion to become a fan of the world famous metal/rock band. After many months i started to buy and collect metallica cd's, videos, posters and other bits and peices. This turned me into a bloody fanatic and i got hooked on Metallica all the time, and my one wish was to see them live. That was about 5 years ago, now im a completely different person. My whole outlook on music has changed and i have listen to some crazy stuff over the last few years which has made me think that metallica isn't the greatest band on the earth. There are some other reasons involed aswell, such as the newly released St.Anger which i thought was a complete waste of time for the band and the fans, the production of the album was very quick and not thought over that much. It seem they wanted to make a old school style album by having that raw power that they have at concerts and jam sessions, but instead all we hear is Lars's drums getting beaten to death by his sticks, there is no tone work in James vocals and i was very dissapointed to see Kirk not have any solo's put into any of the songs(much like when Jason Newsted's bass was put down in Load and Re-Load and some of there early stuff). Now after saying this all Metallica fans would proberly want to beat the shit out of me, but everyone is entitled to ther own opinion, and i truely believe that there 15 minutes of fame is over (well its been more than 15 minutes). I believe that there getting to the point were there just wanting more money and there going to put out anything to get it. Much like your britneys or your nickelbacks. I hope to god that they wake up soon from this dream and create something so powerful that it will make them kings again, much like Master Of Puppets or the Black Album(Self Titled).

Ride is my pick, still raw and thrashy with some epic undertones, a kind of hint to the next two albums. Maybe the album that sums them up best for me too.
Although a lot of people say that the black album was the end of met I think it was the huge push and progression of metal in the years between AJFA and the black album that sealed their fate!!

Metallica have been one of my favorite bands ever since I first got into the metal scene.

MOP is the best album I think, there's an energy in it that you can feel even to this day.
I really can't stand it when people bash them, especially over that whole mp3 issue. Talk about getting out of hand.

I've seen them 4 times in my life so far. I plan to make it a hell of a lot more.

LONG LIVE METALLICA!!!

fuck Metallica. Either Slayer ('Reign In Blood'), Exodus or Dark Angel get my vote over any Metallica album...

and that's my highly constructive post for the day

if i was forced to believe those three never existed, I'd have to pick Ride The Lightning

Reign in Blood is arguably the most influential metal album of all time.
