Of course (1). But what does 'barely' even mean? Even with double stroke or swivel foot technique you have to move the damn pedals accordingly.
There's also a difference in drum kit though. Devin asked RVP to use triggers on his old kit, but when he got the new Pearl Reference kit, he didn't need them anymore because it sounds a lot more punchy.
Of course (2). Even I as a relative drum rookie would sound better on Dave Lombardo's TAMA Starclassic kit with Iron Cobra pedals than I do on my friend's cheap compressed wood drums.
