This topic has been in my head for some weeks now... But I always forgot it when visiting this board (or I was just too lazy...) Anyway, I saw that there's a similar thread at the RVP forums - and now I stole it
One of the most impressive and insane drum performances I ever heard is Cyberwaste from Fear Factory. In my opinion, Raymond has amazing double bass skills, but on this song he goes completely nuts with his feet AND his hands! Wow! Air drumming anyone?
Gene's playing on the two Death records he did is also very cool. I love his approach to the cymbals!
And right now, my vote for the best drum performance on an entire album goes to... SYNCHESTRA! Ryan did such an awesome job. To be honest, I didn't expect it to turn out that great. The songs are very varied, and so are the drums. Straight-ahead rock drumming, more proggy stuff, fucking heavy double bass attacks... It's all there.
