I don't fear ants but I do have a sort of a trauma for them. I was still in kindergarden when I sat on a rock that was swarming with ants. About hundred of them were biting me and it hurted like hell.

Just when I thought it was safe to go in the water...I changed my mind. I can't go in water were anything even REMOTELY dangerous could be. Scares the shit out of me.

When I was little, I had a fear of the swimming pool for a short time.

Whenever I put my head under the water and I'd hear that low rumble of the pumps running and see the drain or the lights on the side, I'd think the drain or lights were going to suck me down and eat me or something.
The movie Poltergeist didn't help either, with the pool full of skeletons.
I still get a little creeped out if I'm swimming and get too close to the drain.

I'm also deathly afraid of ghosts and haunted places, although I have this huge fascination with them and like to read or take in as much info about them as possible.

I was afraid of the sump pump in the basement when I was little. During a storm and heavy rain, the sump pump would be running loudly and I thought somehow the scary storm was connected to a monster on the basement.

I'm afraid of the dark too...just when I'm alone. I constantly try to focus and am certain I might see a ghost or orb floating in the darkness.

Children Of The Corn scared the crap out of me when I was a kid....living in rural Indiana near MANY cornfields.

I'm scared to death of heights......I'm OK on a plane.

Ooh, we always used to go to our local fun pool with slides and a wave machine. I wasn't a good enough swimmer so I wasn't allowed to go in the wave machine bit....so where the waves come from there are these big metal bars and when the buzzer went, was when the waves started. my sister used to go up the deep end into the waves and said that when the buzzer went sharks came out from behind the bars...i used to think shed get eaten :(

Now that you mention...SESAME STREET! *shudder*
I didn't see it often when I was small, but I remember
that once (and that time I was, OF COURSE, watching it
all alone) there was a scene that scared the SHIT outta me.

Kermit is standing somewhere, waiting to make a live report.
Then it happens...and I already KNOW what's gonna happen,
even though I never have seen this issue before...
He stumbled over something. He takes it up. ("god, no....!")
He wonders: "What the...What's that cable doin' here?"
("...it's no CABLE! Run, Kermit, RUN!")
He pulls and rips the thing frantically towards him, to see where
it leads. ("Drop it! RUN!!!).
A big, mean, FUCKING scary furry monster sloooooowwwwly
rises up, the "cable" being his ultralong, thin, trunklike nose,
watching him with anger. Well, "anger" doesn't quite put it.
More a "guess what I'm gonna do to you for that!" look.
It builds up in front of Kermit higher and higher. Kermits' gaze
follows up, he begins to shudder. Then the creature arches its
eyebrows and with a lightning-quick move grabs him with it's
huge mouth and FUCKING SWOLLOWS HIM DOWN IN A WHOLE!
Then it turns towards the camera and lets out a single ultradeep:
"HA!"

What the fuck is THAT gonna teach little childreen?
Keep your hands from things you don't know or you're gonna be eaten?
Swallowed ALIVE by a FUCKIN big UGLY-AS-HELL-monster?

Cost me some sleepless nights when I was 4 or 5...
Fuck, I'm 26 now and STILL haven't forgotten THAT!

yirks. memory of sesame street-episodes is never reliable, and i'm not sure at all, but i think i remember that one. could be that i don't and you just made that story up, but i don't think so: these fuckers invented a lot of really scary stuff that simply can't teach you anything but fear.

does anyone remember those fuzzy sack-like aliens with antennas on their heads that used tu show up in an empty livin room, starting to investigate everything? they could only make sounds like "nok nok nok" or so, and they entered the room THROUGH THE WALL! a comletely normal living room, like your's at home, and they didn't look like anything you've seen!

well, that's for sure: i'm gonna do some google image search now. prepare for the results!

I remember them, Ike! I think they appeared in a Ernie&Bert
scene. Ernie makes up a "imagine that" story, telling Bert about
scary aliens, coming to them, investigating everything.
Then, when Bert, totally unnerved, leaves, they appear for real.
And he doesn't believe Ernie, even though now there ARE aliens.
Well, okay...that clip has a "never cry wolf" moral.
Anyway...those creepy, floating, sack-like shaped buggers gave
me the creeps, man! Their intentions unknown they can follow
you ANYWHERE! "Nok-nok-nok!" Pure horror, lad!

Oh! Look I found something in wikipedia!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yip-Yips
Here they're called the "Yip-Yips"...
They probably have high-piched voices in
the original english version. Anyway...
The german version, dark sounding "nok-nok-nok"
is helluvawhat more scary!

And no...I'm SURE that I didn't make up the scene I described
before. I HAVE seen it. And there were A LOT of other creeps
in Sesame Street that also scared me outta my mind when I
was little.

There was this Vincent Price movie called "The Tingler" that would be on tv every now and then when I was a kid that used to scare the shit out of my older brother and I.There was one scene in particualr (and I may be remembering some of this wrong) where this deaf mute lady is supposedly alone in a dark bedroom, but in another bed that is in the room, someone sits up from under the covers. So she gets out of the room and closes the door (I think whoever was in the other bed tries to open the door, but she holds it shut untill he stops). She then goes into the bathroom and locks the door.In the bathroon the sink and the bathtub faucets are both running blood. Then from the bathtub that is full of blood,a hand starts reaching out and she has a heart attack and dies.I remember my brother and I standing behind my mother's legs, scared to death watching this scene.Pretty frightening stuff when your 6 or 7 years old. From that day on,we always refered to this as "The movie where the hand comes out of the bathtub".Here's a couple of pics from that scene (I can't remember if the blood was in color or not when I saw it):
