oops, forgot about them, and I of course never listed Mayhem and Burzum...doesn't it go without saying? lol

Also, forgot about Wyrd. To quote my friend "If Satan was a pirate, this would be his music." lol

been into it for almost 9 years. it has not certainly evolved.

most bands are but copycats of emperor, enslaved, dimmu (at times), mayhem (those of them who still think themselves wicked and spooky), and so

if it wasnt for thorns, arcturus and some other oddball band who tried something different, i'd say bm is absolutely and altogether doomed

I like....

Burzum
Emperor
Immortal
Meads of Asphodel
Enslaved

I like the more progressive side to some of it, like the newer Enslaved or Emperor.
I like the Burzum atmosphere and some of the early under produced stuff but there is only so much Darkthrone i can listen to before begging for mercy.

That's why you have to check out the bands that take the Black Metal and cross it with other music, evolving it. Apotheosis and Shining are great examples. Both masterminds (Apotheosis is a one man band and Shining is all written by one guy and then taught to the current band) don't like the way Black Metal is stagnant and beleive most of it is a joke now, so they've been moving away from it or just crossing it with other types of music.

A large part of Black Metal is the same stuff, and I hate the elitiest views of so many of them saying that the only good Black Metal is the Burzum/Mayhem/Darkthrone stuff. Experimentation is needed, and there's some out there that are doing just that.

i couldnt agree more. they should realize by now that corpsepaint is outdated. i "grieved" quite the death of bands as emperor and limbonic art, but now that i think about it, it was for the best. i mean peccatum is grand and zyklon, well they're there.

ill check those bands.

Not really a fan. I was put off extreme metal for a long time because i need to be able to hear lyrics, and i need some form of vocal melody to hook me into a song. That's why when i first bought "City" i was like "YES! FINALLY! THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!"

You should look into Into Eternity then, TONS of melody, very beautiful music. Plus my friend is now their bassist :-) it's so good to hear they took off so well now, I think they're touring with Satyricon right now. Now I want to listen to them myself.

I love Prometheus: The Principle of Fire and Demise by Emperor. I also dig their self titled album, Equilibrium and Anthems, but the most BM I ever really listen to is Prometheus.
