just thought ide slip that in there.

That just got me thinking about MC5 and the Kinks, which for their time were very heavy bands, I think the Kinks released their first stuff in 1965 (could be wrong though), and MC5 were not far behind.

And The Sonics... they were crushing for the '60s.

I definitely agree with those of you who mentioned the Kinks - if I remember correctly, You really got me and All day and all of the night were their first two singles, and the riffs were really heavy regarding the time they were released.

Sometimes two chords can be all you need when it comes to writing a hard rockin' riff

Bjork can be pretty crazy-heavy. Ever heard her a cappella album? Where is the Line is really heavy, and very creepy.

Four bands/artists which are heavy in different ways:

GRAVE - Holy shit. These guys don't get mentioned enough. Do yourself a favor and go buy "Back From the Grave", stick it in your car, and crank it. Your ears will beg for mercy. They are the heaviest death metal band in existence, imo.

Ulver - Their electronic stuff is heavy in a fucked up way. It's hard to describe unless you've heard them, but if you have, you know what I mean.

Devil Doll - Holy shit. I don't even know what to say about Mr. Doctor. Just check out the album Dies Irae if you wanna know what heavy is.

And lastly, Blut Aus Nord - I've never heard anything so heavy/evil/dark in my life.

Khanate are intensely heavy in an evil, forboding kind of way. Cult of Luna can be utterly crushing. Today is the Day just about take my head off, more HARSH than heavy though I suppose.

Khanate are almost too much for one man to take, VERY dark and evil and heavy.

Today is the Day is a good one, In the Eyes of God especially, that thing's just out of control.
