Sounds like it's going to be an excellent album. "Holy Mountains" does not sound like I expected it to, different from the live version, and "Vicinity Of Obscenity" sounds like it's going to be awesome! So weird.

Some good heavy songs, too.

HYPNOTIZE CLIPS (the clips—in a zip file—are of somewhat low quality)

ive never liked SOAD to be honest, i liked Toxicity and Chop Suey and Angels - i was super exposed to those 3 songs and were fantastic. i heard parts of everything else but its a bit boring.

many of these clips show that the songs are much slower and not as maniac-ish as they used to be.

i cant believe how the media (well at least it is over here) are slamming SOAD for releasing 2 albums in the same year. i read it was meant to be a double album but instead opted against it. the media said it was a money stunt, man, if my fave band released 2 albums in one year i would go ecstatic. i dont think SOAD are in a position of poverty nor are they really rich so i dont see what the problem is!

how do these (from what you can tell) compare to mesmerize? similar kind of music or is mesmerize the maniac one? and now this one is titled hypnotize and meant to put you to sleep with slow songs? :)

I can't say I'm a SOAD fan, but I'm very impressed by what I've heard of all this new stuff this year. It's still recognisable as them, but certainly hasn't stuck with the same old formula

Yeah, anyone complaining that they released two albums is stupid. If it were a double CD it would cost $20 or more, individually they will run your $10 or a little more (i.e. the same fucking amount either way)! Hehehe.

The difference with Mezmerize/Hypnotize is that it's a collection of personal songs that Daron wrote himself. Before Serj wrote 99% of the lyrics and melodies, this time Daron did. So it's a bit different. He sings more and that takes some getting used to, but he also crafts the songs a bit differently than Serj. There are some slower, more straightforward songs on Mezmerize, and on Hypnotize it seems, but they're really good.

It took me a while to get used to Mezmerize, but now I think it's awesome. That's probably why these clips seem like the full versions are going to kick ass!

As for the difference between the two, I don't know. "Vicinity Of Obsenity" seems to have that quirky style of theirs like on "Radio/Video." "Attack" seems like it'll be like "Sad Statue" and "Cigaro," I think the albums are going to balance out well, which was their intention. Basically I think if you like Mezmerize you'll like this one. They're such a killer band either way, still 100% original.

SOAD never really catched me, somehow. Chop Suey is an awesome track to headbang to tho

It's an excellent album! I love the dynamics! I also notice that Daron's affinity towards Wham! and Devo are shining through on this album! Hahaha. I only assume he likes Wham! because he's covered a bunch of their songs live, only as jokes, little ditties, but still...closet fan, or no?

how could someone not like something that George Michael is/was involved in? Listened to Hypnotize twice now and it really rocks. Sounds heavier than Mezmerize.

I like what I've heard so far (just the samples), and I think it'll be even better on the final version (sound quality), so I'm pretty excited to get it when it comes out.

There's two full songs here, too.
