hello, that's a question for anyone of DTB who might know this... is the record going to be kept in the regular open C major tuning, or are there gonna be some alterations to this? thanks'n'cheers

im going to guess he'll probably stick to the reg tuning, but im willing to bet some songs might have a few alterations in the tuning.

Yeah cuz' now he plays a 7 string, even in SYL while the songs don't use the high e string.
So is he using it to get used to it in prevision of Synchestra ?

Cuz' Jed sticks to a 6 string tuned in GCGCGC.

We are using 7 strings on this one and the tuning is the same as the open C tuning with the lower one tuned to G. We are also playing a couple songs in standard tuning as well.

Standard? how interesting. Also just the low G mean were going to get some really low palm muted G's now? It's quite a bit lower than the C so it would have an interesting rythm sound.

I always liked the guitar sound and tone in Devin's projects, but you have to win me over with this 7th string low G idea...

Same with Nevermore; l really like Jeff Loomis' guitar tone (half a step down) on the first couple of albums (the Neil Kernon produced ones), but the noodling on the low 7th string on the later (Andy Sneap) material doesn't add anything to Loomis playing IMO.

But that's just me and Devin's material has never disappointed me so far. So I'll just wait and see.

jesus! If Jed tunes to GCGCGC, he must be using the fattest gauge known to man! He probably uses those 14-70s that Zakk Wylde brought upon the world...

I believe that "Funeral" is in standard tuning as well.

for the GCGCGC its 10-60 minus the 60

You have a point.

And considering that I love the "whale sound" of the guitars on Ocean Machine's "Bastard", I guess that the Synchestra tuning will be quite pleasing, too. "Bastard" features some of the most oustanding and imaginative guitar sounds I've ever heared - and it's only (:lol:) 2 full steps (I think) above a low G.

you're right about that.. 4 half-notes..whale sound - a preety cool name, I don't like names much, but that one fits well for bastard's multilayered gtrs. but I do love Funeral as well, which seems to be in standard E tuning as Greg's already said. All hail Ocean Machine, right?
