BWP is close to perfection. The new one is great, but NOT BWP great imo. Will Opeth ever release a really weak album? Don`t think so....

Damn I have to buy a ticket to their show soon!

Damnation doesn't count :P

Now, that's just wrong. I don't see how you can't count "Damnation." That's a great album, too. Personally, I'm just now getting into Opeth. I have Damnation and Deliverance. However, when I get some more money, I'm getting the other ones. I'll buy Ghost Reveries when it comes out. But, anyway, Damnation is damn good stuff. I very much enjoy it. Good heavy yet melodic vibe.
damnation is just a different style so it's hard to rank, kinda like comparing radiohead to tool or something like that.

Point taken. I misunderstood you. That makes sense. I thought you meant that Damnation had no place or wasn't good enough to rank because of it's mellower feel. But, you're saying it's apples and oranges, you can't compare them. See? You don't have to hit me in the head with a hammer!

The passage close to the one minute mark in Hours Of Wealth has to be one of the most beautiful passages I've heard

This album is the best thing they did since Still Life.

I already wonder how the next one will be. Do they have full artistic freedom, even if they're signed to Roadrunner?!

no, the next Opeth Album will be a Metalcore CD :P Well, I hope they made an arrangement with RR that they can keep their freedom...but I'm pretty sure they did.

is it just me or is Ghost Reveries a lot slower and less intense than previous Opeth? it seems like all the 'heavy' parts are dominated by chugging guitars and odd polyrhythmic drumming ><

OPETH's official web site has been updated with the following first-week national chart positions for the group's new album, "Ghost Reveries":

#4: Sweden (midweek chart; after two days of sales)
#11: Finland
#21: Norway
#35: Australia
#38: Netherlands
#39: Germany
#62: United Kingdom
#64: USA
#72: France
#84: Denmark

Not bad at all!

On another topic, has anybody been reading/listening closely to the lyrics of this album? It really feels like there is some kind of story involved. From what I can see so far it seems to be about somebody who is cursed somehow, and runs away to hide...then finds redemption (possibly selling his soul to the devil, or something). Not sure about the rest. Any ideas?

I've got to say that I haven't really listened to Ghost Reveries properly yet but it sounds impressive.

Can't imagine it matching Morningrise though - their masterpiece

Yeah, and on this album they are going to have to contractually do a cover of Ashley Simpson, "Shadow". Which, somehow, will still kick ass...but have an empty, hollow feel to it....
