Though you guys are making it harder, heh.

shit man, you just HAVE to listen to it. It just doesn't get boring and there's so much to discover each time you listen to it. I'm sure you'll love the diversity since I know you're an Opeth fan yourself. Well, did that make it any easier for you?

I got ahold of the whole album a few days ago too and I haven't been able to stop listening to it.... though it was interesting to see what you had to say about some of the tracks... personally, Beneath the Mire is one of my favorites on the album. The beat has almost a Kashmir feel to it, I thought it was an interesting piece for them to do. And of course Ghost of Perdition... genius.

This is definately one of their best albums.

Wow! This has got to be the trippiest album they've done yet. Per certainly adds something new to their sound. Pyschadelic but still with that Opeth vibe we know and love

Been listening alot to the album lately, so now I can agree with the title of the thread; the new Opeth is indeed quite amazing!

Dunno if this has been posted here but anyway.
Gene from SYL is their temp drummer at the moment. How cool is that.

Opeth will always produce the goods, a very impressive album that gets better the more you listen.

I love the new Opeth record. I thought they couldn't do any better than their last few records, and the DVD, but shit, they did it again. I immediately bought a ticket for their show in Amsterdam in September, when I heard the new record.

I'm still not convinced this is as good as BWP, but it's certainly up there with Deliverance for runners up. Orchid is ok, Morningrise is what Orchid should've been but still a little drawn out, MAYH had a lot of filler and some genius tracks (April Ethereal, DEMON), Still Life was them beginning to really hone their sound but still had some filler. That's just my take on it.

BWP is fucking GENIUS. Amazing. Deliverance was a great, slightly more straightforward sounding album but still had genius moments (the title track is simply amazing). Damnation is cool but I like heavier stuff so it didn't do as much for me.

I can really appreciate Ghost Reveries because it has a vibe that's fairly different from other Opeth albums. The keyboards add a very cool element and Mikaels vocals never stop getting better. As I've found with a lot of Opeth CDs, the first 2 tracks are by far the best on the CD, Ghost of Perdition and Baying of the Hounds. Atonement, Hours of Wealth, and Isolation Years are all tracks I tend to skip, because they are rather repetitious or uninteresting. In their own right, they aren't BAD, but just compared to the rest of the material on the album just not that good. Beneath the Mire, Reverie, and Grand Conjuration are all pretty good Opeth tracks.

So overall a pretty good album with a cool vibe. Ghost of Perdition and Baying of the Hounds are two of my new fav Opeth songs, but the rest has yet to truly grow on me.

Now, that's just wrong. I don't see how you can't count "Damnation." That's a great album, too. Personally, I'm just now getting into Opeth. I have Damnation and Deliverance. However, when I get some more money, I'm getting the other ones. I'll buy Ghost Reveries when it comes out. But, anyway, Damnation is damn good stuff. I very much enjoy it. Good heavy yet melodic vibe.
