Stagnant...
I've never heard anyone talk about this song before. (but that could also be me ofcourse...)
I just love this song, it's an amazing last song of a record. Devin's vocals sound amazing and give me goosebumps as soon as he starts singing the first words "Summer's here...." ... oooh....
Not to mention the guitar solo... :|:|:| ... this is one of my favoriete Devin solo's ever. The backing vocals are amazing.
I dunno, the song just rocks my socks off everytime I listen to it.

Stagnant, Traveller, Random Analysis, Regulator...

Overall, I feel that it's Devin's more commersially viable songs that are often left out of our discussions. The "simpler" stuff, so to speak. Which is a shame, because that too, is a difficult thing to master. The poppier tunes that not only deserve airplay, but should also be able to get it...

Yes! It took me awhile to really appreciate this as alot of the other songs on Terria overshadowed it at first, but godamn what a good song it is. My favorite closer to ANY album, just perfect imo.

A couple songs that spring to mind:

Colonial Boy

Everytime I hear it, I want it to go on for another 5 minutes or so. One of those tracks you hear many times and never really pick up on, and then one day you're like "Holy shit, how did I miss THIS?"

Processional

Beautiful! It can get repetitive but that's really what makes it so good. It's perfect to leave on repeat as you go to sleep. Not to say that it's boring, I just find it very relaxing, especially the final 3 minutes or so.

Jupiter. It's just all together a really great song. The intro kicks ass, and the whole song keeps it up until the end. I especially love the whole chorus with the "Quietly, we give our souls to the sea!"

Man, Ocean Machines and Red Tomorrow (Ass-Sordid I) are all fantastic songs. Sonically, they seem to sit somewhere inbetween City and Biomech so I can see why they were omitted.

It just makes me sad that Dev didn't have enough of this "somewhere inbetween" material to make a completely different project, because these songs show yet another great dimension of his songwriting that was never officially seen.

Speaking of which Processional... Holy shit that's wacky!!! The intensity of that song is so surreal, it feels enormously happy and yet there's an undertone of malice a mile wide that makes the whole thing feel very unsettling. Has anyone else noticed that???

Personally, I f**kin' love it.

So more experimental stuff please Devin!! Even if it's just for us fans :D

Oh yeah and Devlab rocks in the only way static in outer-space could... great

How could I have forgotten about Jupiter? It's my favorite song off of Physicist and actually the first Devin solo song I ever heard. I know Devin's not a huge fan of it, but I really think it's a great song.

Dev's singing in Bring on the Young, well before he screams, is Andrew Lloyd Webber all the way, very phantom of the opera... i guess that makes dev good enough for actual opera. fuckin a, son

Man, I completely agree with you!

My comtribution to the thread is "Deep Peace" and "Underneath The Waves"!
Especially during the chorus where it says: "I'm tired of waiting, I'm tired of fighting, I'm tired of waiting for fucking nothing"...

Gives me goosegumps!

For me the most important songs are Kingdom from Physicist and Deep Peace from Terria - I think Happy Camper (Carpe B.U.M.) from SYL.

All the songs have their own kinds of emotional "colors" (hope this doesn't start to sound too much like over-abstract shit) which are for me the closest ones. Every time I hear one of those songs, it gives me own kind of a very strong and very touching feeling.
From Kingdom I become somehow a little anxious, I'm longing something very great and enormous. Deep Peace, as its name, makes me calm and happy, satisfied. Happy Camper - and I don't know why - makes me enormously glad, energetic and ready to reach anything.
And it's not only because of the melodies and sounds, these whole songs make me feel something very strong, any other music hasn't the same effect on me.

Maybe I'll start to be a hippie. (at least I would be the very first hippie on Earth who listens Strapping Young Lad)
