As previously stated, he's obviously not the greatest drummer in the world, but he is a damn good one. Also, he gets more respect from me for being able to play multiple instruments and sing as well.

I fucking love Foo Figher's first album so much.

As far as the mainstream goes, he's very overrated, but the underground doesn't give him near the amount of respect he deserves. His drum work on that QOTSA album, while nothing overly challenging, really did sound great. That Probot CD he released is very good for what it is. So as a whole, I looked at it from the perspective of some of my less mainstream peers and I honestly feel that the man is very underrated.

Over-rated just like Nirvana

Again, good luck to him for his success.

Personally I thought Nirvana were poor compared with other 'grunge' bands of the era and as a drummer dave is notjhing special.

Foo Fighters write decent pop-rock songs but i will never ever buy it.

Give me Immortal any day!!!

I dont see him as being so mainstream, even though nirvana went through the roof they have heavy underground roots. As much as they accumulated annoying fans, they stayed firm in their roots in their approach, you have to give Kurt that. I mean lets face it, he obviously didn't dig the stardom ie. "In Bloom". Foo Fighters did get a little mainstream however he proved his diversity with QOTSA, Probot etc. Kudos.

Dave is the king of pop. Foo pop is the only good pop. His drumming is fabulously tight and he hits like a motherfucker! God, he had to keep the 2 talentless fucks in Nirvana in line so he is already incredibly underrated for that! That band sucked ass but it was fun to watch Dave bash.

Qotsa wouldn't be where they are today if it weren't for Dave and Alain Johannes.

Probot, although I don't like it was a pretty kickass project to mastermind. I bet that alot of kids got familiar with alot of music they had never heard of because of that little record.

Good for Dave! Keep doin what yer doin. I may not like most of it but I'll give you the credit for your work.

What?! Really? Bigger than Justin Timberlake or Michael Jackson or Eminem? King of pop???

Chops 666 wrote:Qotsa wouldn't be where they are today if it weren't for Dave and Alain Johannes.

WHAT?! First of all, is it for Dave or Alain? Why are they BOTH instrumental to QOTSA's success, even though they met with huge success with their 2nd slab, which still didn't feature Dave. And what about Kyuss when neighter was in the band? Josh Homme is a fucking genius, with or without Alain or Dave (he proved that plenty with Kyuss and Brant Bjork).

Don't forget about Dave showing up on the Melvins 'King Buzzo' EP that was put out in.... 1991 I think. He went under some other name though due to politics, but he's indeed on there for the duration of the album.

weeeeeeeell,
can't say anything about him being over- or underrated. Both are extremes somehow. I just like most of the stuff he does with Foo Fighters being the least appealing and Tenacious D and Probot fighting for the grand prix.
