Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

Prior to Tsunami magazine's editorial meetin last week I had no knowledge of a band that go by the name of Grizzly Bear. My editor passed along the CD because it was on Warp records, a label I have always shown much interest in. Little did I know just how fucking incredible the band was.

Those of you who like progressive music will be stunned by this. I'm not talking about shredding or opera vocals or whatever, I mean music that does not sound like normal music, music that sounds like it is from another place. I'm going to sound like a whore for this band no matter how i say it all so I'll just list the cool things about their latest CD, Yellow House:

- tons of atmosphere. This record gives me the Terria feeling, often
- awesome production, very hand-crafted sounding
- wonderful songs that meander and go into unexpected places
- incredible harmony vocals (all four members sing)
- musical ingenuity in the arrangement, mixing and construction
- great flow with much variety and depth
- a warm, pleasant feeling because it's so damn good :D

I guess I sound pretty silly but I just had to post this, these guys are so good I want them to sell a million records so they have more money to make more albums

Reminds me a lot of Sigur Rós is places. That's probably just because I listened to "Takk..." today.

Very good.

A little too "fluffy" for my taste.

^Agreed. I also wouldn't really compare it to Terria...

HOWEVER, it is well written and I don't blame anyone for liking it. It's good shit, just not my thing... At least, not right now it isn't.

I checked out Muse on your recommendation, Greg, and dug it. So, I'm checking this out, too. I'll try to remember to let you know what I think. Been busy so haven't had as much time to get up here. Thanks!

I like it......somehow. "On a neck, on a spit" reminds me on Norah Jones, at least the first minute and in the next second it get that "Sigur Ros" thing.

:?:  :D

Thanks for digging out.

This is actually pretty cool. Not really Terria-ish, but still good!

"Lullabye" reminds me the most of Terria. That weird chord and the atmospheres that drift around behind it and then that climbing riff... But there is not a large resemblence, it just give sme that feeling a fair bit by being so green and foresty.

After listening o this album multiple times every day my favourite track is number four, "Central and Remote". Fuckin kills me, it's like Smile era Beach Boys with Faun Fables.

Funny, I never even thought of a Sigur Rós comparison.... Isn't it great what different people hear in stuff? I'm glad some of you are digging it and I guess I need to state for those who haven't checked it yet that no, it isn't heavy! It's folky! Those of you who have gone and ordered it without listening, if you really don't dig it then I'll buy your copies off you and give them to people I know. Everyone should have this album in their house. :D

Admittedly, I didn't listen to it more than once, but I didn't enjoy it. It was way too laid back for my taste. I couldn't get into it. I wouldn't say it was bad. It just didn't interest me. Oh well.

This is really different from most the stuff I listen to, but I think it's really good. Thanks, Greg
