i heard a leak
but i htink it's incomplete
cause some transitions are too "rough", and the last song ends out of nowhere, and that most certainly isn't the Mars Volta style

from what i've heard, i still prefere Frances though

I have the leak.....never listened to Mars Volta before, but it's extremely good and I'm a fan.

I think compared to their previous releases it falls very flat. Kinda like they've lost momentum. It almost seems like they try a little too hard and while a lot of the material is great the progression and flow of the album seems lost.

One review stated that the drugs are wearing out...

Yeah, something doesn't quite seem right. It seems to have no direction. Some very cool stuff on it nonetheless. But yeah it's disappointing. I was expecting a truly extraordinary album considering their live show at the moment is quite possibly better than any rock band of the last 10 years.

I hadn't realised there was a new album coming out. Just heard the track on MySpace and thought it sounded very good.

I liked it, its one of the densest albums I've heard just because there is so much going on all the time. At the same time I don't think it has the emotional power of Frances or the conciseness (in mars volta terms of course) of De-Loused, so its their worst album yet =\

I read this reply and thought to myself "Shit, I need to see them live". But then I remembered that I actually did. They were opening for System of a Down, and as good as they were live, System of a Down was the better live band that night.

I still haven't heard a studio album, or a studio SONG even, by them.

This band carries alot of King Crimson influence. I can hear alot of Fripp in the guitar work especially. I'm thinking the Larks Tongue, Starless and Red albums. Definetly a good thing though. Lovin the new stuff.

Between The Mars Volta, Tool, and The Postman Syndrome, bands that are influenced by King Crimson kick major ass.

Postmans SYndrome? You can't name a band in the same sentence as Mars Volta and Tool and not be intrigued... Tell me more about said band please!

They're majorly influenced by KC? WHAT!? Why am I not more familiar with them? I'm not a Tool fan, though.

I just for the first time noticed your username, andjustinforall. I smirked when I read it :)

They have three guitarists and 4 singers, they only released Terraforming and never got any attention from anyone even though its in my top 3 albums of all time and everyone I've played Terraforming to has loved it :? . Then their label, Now or Never Records, collapsed when they were going to record a follow-up. They recorded a demo of 5 of the best songs I have ever heard, but Century Media wouldn't sign them so the rest of the album got scrapped (this pisses me off... a lot). Then they got reincarnated as Day Without Dawn, minus one guitarist and with a new drummer... you can hear Day Without Dawn (who are just overall worse IMO) at their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/daywithoutdawn (i think... might be wrong, just google them if i am). and you can order terraforming for really cheap since its 100% profit for the band at daywithoutdawn.com

As for what they sound like, imagine a less dark, more human version of Tool, then add some hardcore screaming and some super soft, Dredg-ish singing... and they have 3 seperate guitar parts through most of their songs. its pretty hard to describe but really, really well done.
