Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

That dude/"ette needs serious help.

I really never understood how people could not like Dev's music, which makes me a bit biased, but what the hell. He/she is probably one sad little person.

These statements are as silly as saying that Chopin's Nocturnes were his best but he just wrote those silly Sonatas to get chicks.

Small minds sometimes make me more angry than I know I should be. :evil:

I wouldn't rule that out entirely. :P

And most answers in this thread are decidedly too much on the fanboi side of things.

Yeah, weird, huh. This being the Hevy Devy Forums and all, you wouldn't think to find that here.

I agree that there is fanboyism here (as with any band/musician's forum), although I don't like what that guy is saying in the review, basically suggesting that metal which isn't "RAAAAHHH ANGST!" is bad metal. It just seems like the immature crap that makes metalheads seem so stupid.

Couldn't agree with you more.

I can deal with a foul opinion of Devy, just not a STUPID opinion of Devy. Foul and stupid, in this case are not mutually exclusive. The writer of that post could have said that he could not deal with the dissonant tones at the end of "Mental Tan" or that Devin did not scream enough for his taste. But no he said that the songs had no MELODY. That's just plain stupid.

As for the fanboy stuff, I happen to think that Synchestra is one of the best albums Devy has come out with. Does that make me a fanboy? Yes....No...? Well I don't really give a purple colored rabbit turd about the answer to that question. Judging other FANS in a FAN forum based on their perceived uncouthness or over-admiration is a bit short-sighted.

Tell yall what, next time I see a Dev post on this forum I am going to laugh my ass off when I see some of the more judgemental people in this thread line right up to get their post as close as possible to Dev's post and do the cyber-equivalent of the squat-and-smooch.

Fanboyism. Hmm. Well, again, like I indicated above. This *is* the Hevy Devy site. So, only a mentally retarded individual without the capacity for critical thinking might be surprised to find fans here.

That being said, I agree with some of the other people here who indicated that it's one thing to criticize Devin Townsend's music. But, it's another to be an idiot.

Exactly.

Here's the other stupid thing. Music, like all other art, is pretty subjective after a certain point. I mean, it's obvious that Devin Townsend can sing, play guitar, arrange music, record it, mix it, etc. So, we're not talking about whether he is an accomplished musician or not. But, ultimately, what this reviewer said is that he doesn't like the album. And, then went on to say it's because the music is bad.

That's stupid.

I may not like Andrea Boccelli. My stepmotther, does. But, I don't. But, if I were to review the latest Andrea Boccelli album and say it's bad, then I'm retarded. I might say that I don't like it. But, that's not the same as saying it's bad.

So, anyway, go figure. A lot of people on the Hevy Devy site think Synchestra rocks cock. Whoa! Alert the media! But, don't act like nobody here would be critical. For me, I'm still trying to see how I feel about the album. Overall, I like it. I'm not real sold on "A Simple Lullaby" though. It's supposed to be the climatic song of the album but it doesn't completely move me that way. I like Pixillate much better. I sorta feel that Dev might have been reaching for something with this album that didn't quite hit. Do I dig listening to it, though? Fuck yeah. This album is my favorite that I've bought since, well, since I bought another Devin Townsend album. Sorry, but I just don't think there's anybody better out there in metal, rock, or othewise right now. It all kind of pales in comparison, to me.

Fanboys are generally marked by blind devotion and they will suck up whatever pablum the artist will offer. They will polish any turd the guy drops. I'm not blind. I listen to a lot of music. I think most people around here do. So, go ahead and let me know when Devin Townsend makes a bad album. As I've said before: Devin Townsend is like sex. Even when he's bad he's still great.

Devin Townsend pwns all bitches!!!!!11111!!!!oneoneone

There, that's fanboy for you.

You're missing the point. Nobody's surprised about finding it here.
But overly eager fanboyism is ugly to behold no matter whether one expected it or not.

No melody? No hooks? Inner child? As Confucius once say, What The Shit? If he doesn't like the album that's totally fine, but this sounds like a bunch of assumptions he made when he should have been paying attention to the record. What this guy's peddling is the polar opposite to overzealous fanboyism: just as ill-considered, and just as annoying.

And why's he so taken with the idea of the album being so happy? The way he's going on, you'd think it was called 'Teletubbies Spooning Care Bears in Huggy Park'!

And as far as the "go back to being miserable and write good songs" part goes, I have only three things to say:

1) Cockanus;
2) This guy clearly has no clue about how the creative process works, and has probably read one too many Kurt Cobain retrospectives;
3) Cockanus.

Christ, I'll respect any opinion as long as it's intelligently thought out... I'm not respecting this one (And let me say that every one of the board members who haven't liked 'Synchestra' have, I think, explained themselves very well, and have done an immeasurably better job of presenting an alternative take than this guy!)

This review does not deserve two pages on this forum.

Fine, but it's not like we're giving out lapdances to Bon Jovi over here. It's Devin Townsend. If anybody deserves overly eager fanboys, it's him.

But, I still don't think that anybody was teabagging right here. Sometimes, I think it's ugly to watch overly reactive poseurs showing how true they are, too.

That's just two sides of the same coin really. (Does that saying exist in English?)
