from a Synchestra review on Amazon.com

"It's obvious from the other reviews here that there is definately major townsend bias in these reviews. So let me put it to you straight.........I don't want to hear happy metal or whatever you call this, I love alot of Devins work but come on people, happy songs in this genre is like listening to Robert Smith sing Christmas carols. The songs have no melody, no hooks, no anything except some guy who had WAY TOO MUCH time on his hands exploring his inner child and never came back. I sure hope the next strapping is not going to suck like this...........
Devin, go back to being miserable and write good songs!!!"

I agree it's a bit harsh...but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Besides, you know what they say about opinions anyway right?!

Unfortunately I didn't care for Synchestra either, but I didn't dislike it as much as the person who wrote that review. I just thought the album was severely lacking. Maybe I have begun to expect too much from the man but after Alien, and the previous DTB stuff how could I not? I have only listened to Synchestra about 6 times so far, but ALL of Devins work has grabbed me immediately and has yet to let go - except for this one. Oh and Devlab was pretty bad too I thought.

Let the beatings begin!!! *cowers in corner hiding face and head*

I can't see how the person reviewing Synchestra on amazon can honestly say that "happy metal" is a bad thing. Metal is happy! :D Well, at least some of it. But come on guys, who here doesn't get fueled and energized when Velvet K goes into All Hail? Or those few seconds before hell breaks loose in Shitstorm?

What's wrong with making metal and giving it an uplifting vibe? Nothing gets me going like some good melodic death metal, or some grooving thrash. That guy sounds like he's a "tr00 narrowminded norwegian black metal warrior". :P not to start shit, but we all know this stereotype... "Oooh, it's supposed to sound like this and this, it cannot sound like THAT! It's against the rules..."

Other than this I can't say anything. Haven't heard Synchestra yet...

One thing though: This guy is trying to tell people that "the songs have no melody, no hooks, no anything"... Come on, it's Devin you're talkin' about here! You honestly think any of his fans will believe you? Since when has Devin made anything lacking good melodies? Jeez :P

ROFL!

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Can't be happy and metal at the same time?

O, the angst. Whatever. *shrug*

Reviews not based on reality are to be chapter 13ed...which is to say thrown away. Devy not equaling melody is like the Beatles not equaling harmony. WTF ever!

I totaly respect anyone's opinion who says they dislike it. But to say it has no melody or hooks makes absolutely no sesne. To me, for whatever reason anyone may dislike Devin's music, melody and hooks are central to everything he does.

last time i checked the Terria had the theme of realising that he had responsibilities and that he was an adult. this is just one of those guys that gives an opinion without hearing it

I really hate it when people think that metal should be angry, miserable shit. Metal should be open to the expression of all emotions!

Some people just dooooon't get it, he has to remember that music isn't solely made for him. Those are the worst fan boys, the ones who feel the artist owes them something.

To say a devy solo record has no hooks is actually a sick joke, I doubt the dev cares much at all about stuff like this, Synchestra is devy flexing his musical muscles and making the music he wants to hear i'm sure. After a week or so with synchestra it all makes sense. As for the miserable b'stards who cant take a bit of something different, screwen yoons.
