Nobody's Here always seems to put a tear or two in my eyes. It is such a beautiful song yet I find it so hard to listen to.

That wasn't Type O Negative.

Source:
The song was recorded back in 1996 to piss off my girlfriend, who loved the Sarah McLachlan song. I had no idea I would be pissing people off well into the 21st century, but then again I suppose doing anything related to Type O Negative could result in catastrophe. I used to sing the song to her, two octaves lower than Sarah’s voice. I was a pretty big Type O freak at the time.
*The Story*
So, I was taking a recording class at Oneonta State (a lovely University in the shitty, frozen hills of upstate New York) and I was required to record a full song as my final project. I decided to see if I could destroy the lovely Sarah McLachlan song the way some long-haired mongoloids from Brooklyn would have. To prepare myself, I listened to nothing but Type O for about two weeks (may the Lord have mercy on my neighbors' souls). Since I play guitar, bass, keyboards, and sing, I tried to figure out what Josh would write and what sounds he would use, what riffs Kenny would come up with, and how Pete would add his Lurchness to the song. I may be stroking my own ego (among other things), but shit, I think I did a pretty good job. Thanks to those of you that enjoyed it, even though you were probably tricked into stealing it.
*The Moron*
For the record, “Possession” was never intended to fool anybody. I know you're probably thinking, "Hey, I was fooled! I hate being fooled! I'm going to kill whoever made me feel like an idiot!" Well that's not me. Like I said, the song was recorded in 1996. There was no Napster in 1996. As far as I know, there were no MP3's in 1996. I did make MP3s of my entire album a couple of years later, however, when I created my website. (I even have a page on mp3.com, but they would not let me upload any of my cover songs because of legal issues, so Possession is not up there.) Due to the nature of the internet, I have no idea where the MP3s I made ended up; hundreds of people came to my website to steal my music. Even the really shitty stuff. Anyway, my guess is that someone had a bunch of my MP3s lying around in a corner of their hard drive (probably somewhere next to the fake Hillary Clinton nude pics and the dirty Simpsons animation) and wasn't sure what the hell "possession.mp3" was, and said to themselves "Hey, I forgot I had this Type O Negative song!" Moron. But it's someone like this who renamed the damn thing and put it on Napster. I love this moron.
*WHAT THE?*
As with all of my MP3s, my contact information was included in the ID3 tag. (For the laymen, when you play the MP3, the player displays the artist's name as Mad Machinery, and has a link to my website and E-mail address.) So people started E-mailing me asking me to explain what the hell was going on. One person sent me a link to this message board where I saw a lot of confused people. Well, I hope those of you that still give a shit come back here and read this. That is my story. Enjoy it, believe it, disbelieve it, gag, etc...

Q.Where can I get that song "Angel"? I can't find it on any of the releases or bootlegs.

A."ANGEL" IS NOT A TYPE O NEGATIVE SONG IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. if you listen closely, or even not so closely, it doesn't even sound like them. If you want the dilly on "angel", one of our intrepid board members, spartacus, did some research and this is what he found:
Quote:
Ok here's everything I've found about Angel. It was done in 1998 by a band called the Astral Sleep from Dusseldorf, which has since disbanded. The way Angel got onto the net in the first place was back when Napster first started, the song got shared accidentally and then was mis-labeled by someone somewhere as a TON song. The Astral Sleep never released any albums before disbanding, Angel is a demo that was supposed to be a private gift to a friend of the band. The guy who wrote the song died of cancer in 2003. When searching for the answer to the Angel mystery (If it wasn't TON, who was it?) I came across moonfairye.com and after talking to the person who runs it I learned the truth about Angel. When I informed her of the misconception about TON doing the song, she visited the Sandbox (old off-topic board before it crashed -- ed.) and set it straight for us all. Since then I've noticed she added some things on a page of her site to make it perfectly clear what's up with Angel, lyrics included. Here is the link.

Q. Did Type O Do _____?

A. A number of songs attributed to Type O Negative floating around on the Internet are just the original versions sped up or slowed down. These include but are not limited to:

"Hit Me Baby, One More Time" by Britney Spears

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana

"My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" as covered by Marilyn Manson

"Lazy" by Noir Desir

Q. So how do you know what Songs Type O Has covered for real?
A. Type O has a history of recording cover songs for almost every official release they've been on. Any unofficial releases (dirty bootlegs) with cover songs of questionable validity on them can be verified by the band stopping somewhere in the middle of the song followed by being yelled at by Peter. A general rule of thumb is if the band didn't fuck up the song, they probably didn't do it.

Just in case :D
