With Dev...his look is so unique, and no one out there looks like him, so when a caricature is done of him...it IS Dev. Not to mention how accurate his caricature is of Dev....this is my opinion.

proving the point that i agree with you

Heh, James Hetfield and Devin, that could have happened in another situation, like when the rest of Metallica stopped Jason Newsted from working in side projects like he did with Devin.

that was actually lars man, see the little drumsticks there?

but that just proves even more Devon's point, cause you instantly recognized Devin :D

I just hope that as long as Dev and Tracy are cool with it, it's really funny.

Death Metal needs a bit of satire what with it being often rather too far up it's own arse.

Ironic then, that they should choose to parody an artist who is consistently humourous and able to parody such things himself.

Satire only works if there is a grain of truth. Devin is neither violent or stupid, the defining characteristics of the cartoon. If they wanted to portray him as silly, clever, possibly goofy, that would be okay with me. Along with acknowledgement that he was the inspiration for the character, I think.

You know what would be cool? Make an "official" HevyDevy cartoon... you know... kinda like the Megadeth episode in Duck Dodgers. 8)

Absolutely. Satire according to dictionary.com is...

Irony, sarcasm, or caustic wit used to attack or expose folly, vice, or stupidity.

And I don't think Dev has any folly, vice or stupidity to expose, let alone any muderous rage.

After listening to the Podcast Daft Grin 6zero posted a link to, I think the maker is a genuine fan of the scene, but I can totally appreciate your concern over how Dev's persona maybe mis-represented by this cartoon.

Plus, I guess it'll do little to change the popular misconception that death metal is "evil" and things like that.

Have you seen the HevyDevy Christmas (sorry, 'happy season' heh) cards? They usually have some sort of cartoon/caricature of Dev/DTB/SYL on the front. An animated version of some of these designs would be awesome!

Yeah, I've seen them (and hopefully I'll have one next year when I, hopefully again, buy Synchestra from HDR) and yes, I think an animated version of those would be great.

HEEEEEEYYYYYYY YOOOOOOOOOU GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUYS!!!!! (as heard in Punky Brüster).

Christmas (sorry, 'happy season' heh)

People just can't use the word Christmas anymore, can they :(.

Btw, the pic of that show looks like it's done with MS Paint.

I think you guys are overblowing this a bit. Isn't an artist allowed to artistically spoof someone? Whether it's ment to pay tribute to the artist or to cut them down it's within our rights. How many times have you laughed at flash cartoons of political leaders? We have all laughed at SNL/MAD/etc. impersinations. A lot of cartoons have brought in impersinations of celebs and all we do is laugh.

I'm glad someone realized this point of view, too.

I'd love to see an official HevyDevy cartoon series myself, haha.

Well, first of all we have to consider that if Small took inspioration from Dev, which seems to be the case, he would be taking inspiration from The Dev, of SYL, rather than Devin Townsend himself. If you went by the sound of SYL alone, you'd get the picture of a pretty angry guy, if you get me. I wouldnt take any of it as offensive. I like Brendon Small, *Home Movies is a brilliant cartoon*, and he has always come across as a nice guy, so hopefully this will all be resolved quickly. Also, as far as I know, he is indeed a fan of the scene, and I have seen the guy play guitar, and he plays pretty well. He did a spoof video called "Thor Von Clemsons Advanced Fast Hand Finger Wizard Master Class", which is damn funny, but also shows the guy can play, I'll see if I can find a link to it

Not seen this cartoon around, but death metal does need a little of the old piss taken out of it, my mate is deeply, DEEPLY into it (the old gore stuff especially) and it has slowly made him hold death metal to his ego..if I insult death metal, it is an insult to him. Death metal isn't exactly 100% serious, and some people truly act like it is the be-all end-all of music.

I still love it to bits though!!
