There's talk about SW and Akerfelt working on a project in '06, along with Portnoy...I don't know about you guys, but I think Dev would fit in well with that crowd.

Nah, too many cooks spoil the broth. Akerfeldt is a composer of himself, and so is Steve Wilson. Put Dev in there, and they wont agree on anything!

I agree with this. I can't see Dev co-existing with all three of those dudes. Maybe it could work but someone would have to be in charge and the others have to just contribute. See O.S.I. for illustration. BTW, a very tasty album, if you ask me.

Yes, true true. Never really thought it was at all realistic, though.

Re. OSI: Yes, I really like it. I'm looking forward to OSI2!

As much as the prospect of a collaboration with someone like that (or Patton, or Gildenlow etc etc) I always think that it would be unlikely for something like that to work. When you have two people who are used to being the creative force, I don't know how the practicalities of having them work togther on a project would actually work.

My general viewpoint on the future is that I would leave it up to whatever direction Devin consciously or unconsciously ends up going in. I don't know how much of it he plans...or how much is just that "magical" element of perfection that creeps in, but I have faith enough to think that whatever he does will be right.

Though an acoustic album would be cool...collaboration with Ron Jarzombek (he's willing!)....erm....heck, he can do whatever the hell he wants...if he didn't, I wouldn't love it so much

Yeah you're probably right, but one can dream right? :) They are both exceptional singers with broad ranges, to hear them switching duties would be nice. Clean vs clean voice, screaming contest etc..

Amen to that. Although both guys do pretty well on their own, it would be interesting to hear what they could come up with.
New albums from each camp in 2006, whohoooo!

Who's Dan Swano? (Not being a dick, just ignorant and wanting to be cured)

Ah, I was wondering too. Looks like I know him through Opeth, Katatonia, and Star One.

Er, hope I'm not going too far off topic here, but if you want to try them out, their latest release, "Viva Emptiness" would be an awesome starting place (well, it's where I started).
