To anyone who knows this guy!

Which albums are your favorites and which song do you like the most?
Do you have any funny stories, quotes about the man with the rusty voice?

My favorite these days are either "Bone Machine" or "Closing Time" (and of course the underrated album, "Mule Variations")

Thoughts on him?

Mule Variations all the way baby!! I LOVE that album! Every song is genius. But that last song really does it for me "Come on up tho the house" it is called, I believe. Absolutely brilliant. Rain Dogs and Swordfishtrombones are also very good albums. That voice, dude! Beautiful, raw, unique....

Blood Money. Awesome album. But I must admit that I haven`t heard all of his albums tho....

The song "Poor Edward" is just spine-chilling...I love that song!

The one on the SYL forum's been fun, so here I am on this one!

Small Change - This is my favorite one. It has that jazz/blues bar, New Orleans feel to it, and it has a great mix of more fun and more beautiful stuff from him, but every song on that thing I love.

Alice - Probably usually my next favorite, and I couldn't agree more with New Plague on Poor Edward, possibly the song that can leave me feeling more hopeless and dark than any other song that I have ever heard.

Bone Machine - Legendary, can't get enough.

Closing Time - A lot different sounding than his other stuff, a lot more melodic, and I love some of the country influences that work their way into there, it really gives the thing a cool feel.

The Heart of Saturday Night - Similar to Closing Time, but a little bit more gruff, you can see the beginning of his eventual change that's spread his entire career. "Shiver Me Timbers" rules.

Nighthawks at the Diner - Another real cool one, good live set with a lot of comedy and great tunes.

Swordfishtrombones - First one I really know of where he started the more percussive style, but it also has some amazing tunes just like his older (well, 70's) stuff. "In the Neighborhood" is a good example.

Rain Dogs - Another awesome more percussive sounding one, very close to or even better than Swordfishtrombones, both are amazing releases, there isn't a bad song, or even weak one on here.

Frank's Wild Years - First theatrical Tom Waits album that I know of (like Alice and Blood Money supposedly are), this one's got some killer tunes and some all around awesome music on it.

Blood Money - First time I heard this I thought I was on a pirate ship. There's those songs, there's ones like "Starving in the Belly of a Whale", there's also the more beautiful and serene ones, a bit of everything.

Yeah, in other words, I'm a HUGE Tom Waits fan. Have been for quite some time, it's just natural. The guy's put out so much cool stuff and managed to completely change his sound throughout his career while still keeping his own touch to his music. 32-33 years since the release of Closing Time and he's still at it with that same touch. He just blows my mind.

A very unique talent indeed.

YEAH! That song is amazing! He just tells you these random things, but because of the way it's done you just visualize......things! And stuff! The song has got a bit of a Neubauten-vibe to it, which I like, since they are one my other favorite bands. :)

Oh yeah, I'm loving both threads. They've come at a perfect time, because I've been listening to pretty much only Tom Waits and Devin lately, so that's pretty much perfect for these forums these days. Two complete geniuses right there.

"Why dont we put flowers on a flowers grave?", or something like that lol. Is typical genius lyrics by Tom Waits. He is an awesome musician but also a very witty lyricist.

Many years have I loved this mans music, his gravelly voice, ability to drop everything and try something new, his sense of humour and style...

I couldn't pick a favourite album. Seriously. Too much awesomeness, but I will admit, that Closing Time, and The Sins of the Father are two of my favourite songs.

And he works with Claypool...awesomeness on more awesomeness.
