Nah, I've read plenty of interviews where both Justin and Dan have addressed the whole Spinal Tap/not-serious-band issue. The only things they don't take seriously are themselves and the rest of the depressed "metal" bands that do. Rock wasn't rock anymore, so they wanted to bring back fun, grandeur and guitar solos. They're a "you either hate us or you love us" band, and they're fine with that. 8)

i saw them at the leeds festival in 2003 and they just annoyed the fuck out of me... but they are trying to do something a bit different which they deserve respect for

Their bass player was so gay, but he was kicked.

I thought he was cool, when I saw them at the Big Day Out he was downright amusing.

I saw them live on Rock Werchter, they were quite amusing. At the end of the set the singer said: "And now for our last song.......don't worry, it's a twelve-minute epic!" I found that remark quite funny. What wasn't so funny, was the fact that they indeed played a twelve-minute song afterwards.

Hey so did I, june 2004. The first half of the concert the singer was dressed as a dropstaaf, the second half as a zuurstok (or the other way around).

What i always tell people about the Darkness is that anything they try and do, Devin Townsend does better, therefore screw'em

I guess, but with that thinking I wouldn't even be able to eat breakfast let alone listen to other bands. 'Ohh man this Wheet Bix isn't as cool as Devin.... pffft screw it.'

Well, i make the direct comparison cuz i think The Darkness try to achieve a campy, arena sound which the Dev accomplishes with much greater depth, skill, talent etc...
I'm not comparing an apple to an orange so to speak...
i'm not going to compare Napalm Death to Devin Townsend band for example cuz it's two different things
Anyhow.
If you disagree with me i will eat your firstborn child
