The Darkness make good music. I said GOOD not GREAT. Thats all I care about for a band, do they make good music. I don't belive that they are a spoof of anything, they just write music that really sounds like it belongs in the 80's, I'm not going to hold that against them.

I enjoy the Darkness, and it irritates me when people say they are just a joke band. They are a band with a sense of humour and alot of pomp, but are deadly serious about what they do and I respect that. I loved the first album, and will probably get this one two. They aren't the greatest band in the world, but they don't pretend to be, they just play feel good rock songs and for that i salute them.

I believe in a thing called sincerity.

I completely agree with VampireDaveGrohl. They completely enjoy the music they're doing, and if you listen to it, they're quite good at the style. Yes, it has cheese, and 80s all over it, but they're one of the only ones doing it these days. All of the 80s guys are still trying to change to the 90s (see Warrant, Motley Crue, et al for examples).

They're everything about 80s arena rock all wrapped into one big goofy homage.

Rock.

I love them. I also saw them live a couple years ago, and it was one of the best and funnest concerts I've ever been to.

Well said Vamp. 8)

"Men what do rock, baby!"

I think they're a hell of a lot of fun and I have the added bonus of my wife loving them too.

I think they're ace. They're lighthearted, they rock, they write damn good pop songs (pop meaning catchy, enjoyable and just damn well entertaining), have a lot of personality and don't take themselve too seriously.

To be honest, they're a lot more talented than people give them credit for.

so far my fav track off the new record is knockers very cathy like zz tops song legs has that smae vibe to it. be nice if they did a video like legs except it will big tits. but since the darkness have a good sense of humor it will probablym be beautiful women with hairy busts lol.the booklet is really nice for this album nice unlike most bands who do booklets that cheaper and cheaper everytime an album comes out. artwork is cool hope they will be a tshirt must buy.

Fine. Whatever. They're a legit 80's throwback band. The singer still sucks ass. End of story. =)

I still don't believe their legit. What interviews I have read/hear of them they try too hard to play their roles. If your going to play roles as a band, I have nothing against a band doing it creatively (like Alice Cooper), but they ripped their roles from Spinal Tap.

I don't mind bands having fun, you might as well. But these guys are not a 'fun' band...to me. They just found a good cash cow and will continue to milk it as long as the public will dish out money.

...They just bug the hell outta me.

I can't say i've read every interview they've ever done, but i never had the impression there were trying to fill roles, or characters. They were just interviewed as normal band member from the few that i've read.

Cashcow? I don't know, if I wanted to make some money I wouldn't have tried it in a 80's rock/pop/retro whatever band...They could've just as easy been laughed at and not signed at all. In that sense I think they're legit. I can understand people get annoyed by them too, but you really don't have to listen to them then? ;)

They aren't afraid to take the piss out of themselves, which is good. Too many bands take themselves far too seriously. I mean just look at all the tough guy posturing in metal.

yeah, and to be fair they actually slogged round toilet venues for several years before getting even remotely popular.
