Have you ever read a book, and in this book you come across a name, and you are never really sure if how you are pronouncing it in your head is right? Okay, I HATE that. I do NO like to mispronounce things. So, Geoff, how the heck do you pronounce your name? I keep thinking it's like, "roosaloh", but I hate not knowing.

Also, anyone else here have a name that people mangle? My last name is very simple, Bair, yet people have called me Blair, Blaine, Bar and, (Inexplicably), Boone.

Just curious

I would actually love for someone to ask me how to pronounce my name. I've only had my name mispronounced once, and with a last name like Brown, you rarely have someone pronounce the o in long form, but one person did.

Yeah, I have the first name Jeff. When I was in grade school I spelled it Geoff, but everyone called me goof, so I changed it to the J version. I really wasn't surprised that they would find that funny and ridicule me for it. But the interesting thing is I wonder how many people were just ignorant to the pronunciation. Probably more than you would expect.

Now I have met other Geoff's and I really like telling that story when I do, but the surprising thing is that I am the only one, as far as I know, to have ever experienced that.

Thats enough to give you a complex.

My name is Ben, not Benjamin, but what do people call me?

I hate being called Benjamin because it's not my name. It's just Ben. Simple eh? Apparently not

I guess attention to detail slips by quite a few people, doesn't it?

Abmer! Abmer Crodool! Man, where you been?

Anyway, hard to desecrate a simple name such as Dave...but a few through the ages have perplexingly called me "Davis".

It wasn't pretty.

I know a girl named 'Yu'

pronounced 'you'

That could not have been anymore confusing when most people (myself included) first met her.

HAHAHAHA (right above)!!! That had to be pretty fun to get used to.

My full first name is Matthew, but I just go by Matt (or the 90 nicknames I have (Browner, Meatball, Meat Boots, Brownie, shithead, meat khakis, meaty pants, Paclebar, Col., Chief, and a ton more), so I really can't complain about people calling me by my full first name or anything, but I still can't believe someone once pronounced my last name wrong.

Feel free to explain where your nick-names come from

Just look at my username. How could you pronounce it wrong? Anyway, my "full" name is Christian

It's pretty common here in Germany, so as far as I remember, no one ever had trouble with that one. And don't get me started on nick-names...

I work with a guy called Ron Hsu. You don't pronounce it Hu-su, but just Su. Took me a while to ge the hang of that.

People don't mis-pronounce my name, but they always pause and double check before saying it. Yes, my surname is Record. AS IN THE ORDINARY EVERYDAY WORD, RECORD! AS IS WHEN YOU RECORD SOMETHING, PRESS THE RECORD BUTTON OR PLAY A RECORD! WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND??!!!

People always seem the think there is going to be some dodgy pronounciation. There ISN'T!!!
