Greenday don't suck, they're much better than anything else punk has to offer.
Also, punk sucks. The only good punk ever made (besides some Greenday and AFI,) is the shit Dev made, and even that seemed to be making fun of the shitty genre.

Obviously you've never heard the Dead Kennedys.

Yeah, I've heard them, and they are really, truly, honestly, in my opinion, crap. That's ok tho, punk really isn't for me, but it's for a lot of people. Let em have at it, as long as I can turn it down or tell em I hate it. :D

Maybe way off topic.

I use to listen to some punk, always listened to metal though, Seen some "punk" shows and slowing started hating it, the same stuff over and over. Metal has more to offer. Punk shows are filled with retards and the fans treat you like crap. Metal shows now they treat you like they were apart of your family.

I never bothered with punk, I was raised on older rock (Rush, Floyd and Zeppelin in particular), 80's metal (Metallica, Slayer and Iron Maiden in particular), and during a brief period between 1995 and 2000, everything ranging from classical to oldies to grunge and even a bit of punk mixed in. Green Day used to be a favorite band, but i'm glad to say that i've grown out of any desire to listen to punk music. I find it to be a boring lack of talent as a genre overall, and it just doesn't fit into my musical schedule with so much other music out there.

I'm sorry, but that's really horseshit...
I can imagine that people don't like Green Day, simply because they don't like the music, or don't like punkrock, that's ok. But to say that it 'doesn't fit into a musical schedule' or that it's a 'boring lack of talent' is really closeminded.
I listen to anything from David Bowie to Meshuggah to Genesis and Yes, and also to punk rock, and I have no problem at all with that. The more you open yourself up to new music, the better.
Green Day a boring lack of talent? That's just bullshit. A lot of punkrock bands sound the same, I agree, but most of them write good songs and still sell a lot of records.
The whole thing about the punkfans treating you like crap is something personal I guess. I think the biggest problem is that a lot of punkrock band try to bring a serious message across (which is the part I like about punkrock), but the fans of that music are just too young to understand, or too young to give a crap. At least here in Holland it's that way.. Just a bunch of 15 and 16 year olds who just want to skate and get high, which is the same reason why they treat other people at concerts like crap.

Well I listen to EVERYTHING that I haven't heard before, regardless of it's genre. Regardless of what I thought of the band's previous albums. At least once, anyway. And I don't see how me saying they're "boring" or have a lack of talent is close-minded, because they bore me, and compared to the majority of bands I listen to on a regular basis, they have a lack of talent.

Well, explain to me why they have a lack of talent, because I don't understand.

You were making a pretty decent point right up until that comment. Record sales are NOT an indication of an artist's/band's talent. Vanilla Ice sold a shitload of albums. Do you think he's talented? And the definition of a good song is so ambiguous and subjective that it's not worth arguing about.

Also, of course you're not going to have a problem with what YOU listen to -
I listen to anything from David Bowie to Meshuggah to Genesis and Yes, and also to punk rock, and I have no problem at all with that.
I'm not sure what you were trying to say with that comment, but it's a pretty obvious statement that doesn't support your argument in any way. If someone listens to music they like, and then has a problem with themselves for liking it, that person needs to be evaluated at the nearest psychiatric center.

I think you were trying to say that being open-minded is a good thing, and I agree. I don't agree that punk rock takes any real musical talent to write and play and is more about making a statement and dressing a certain way than the music itself anyway. And that was one terrible run-on sentence.

It takes less 'technical abilities' to play punkrock, but you still need some decent songwriting skills to write a good punkrock record. Note, I am talking about punkrock, not oldschool punk / hardcore.
Vanilla Ice sold a lot of records? I'm not sure about that, maybe he sold a lot of singles, but records, I don't know. If he did he'd still be making music by now.
I think everyone who sells a lot of records has something which makes him / her a good musician, which could be anything from vocals, dancing abilities, production, 'catchyness', etc...

So maybe I was too general when I said "lack of talent", what I meant was a lack of technical skills, something that I often find vital in liking or disliking a band. The first thing I tend to notice is the music's appeal to me, and punk, punkrock or anything associated directly with punk has never really interested me. I still give those bands who call their music "punk" a chance, and there have been rare instances where I enjoyed some of it. Green Day are just one of the many bands who I find to be lacking in technical talent and appeal. I won't take away from them that they can write a good catchy song, because I used to ADORE the Dookie album, but it's just not my taste anymore, more or less.

Let's see....

There would be a humongous list here, except since my entire CD cases (which contained about 300 CDs) were stolen and I'm currently trying to get back all the material that was precious to me, I'll just narrow it down to what I rebought and to what I keep listening to over and over: The album "Older" by George Michael and "Evanescence" (not the band, though I dig their music) by Scorn. Kick ass albums.
