I haven't read the replies yet, but here's my opinion.

I'm a scientist ( a physicist). If I'm to be honest, I have to answer "I'm not sure". Because I can't prove that there is NO soul. I can say things like "we don't need a soul to explain how human beings work", but that is not the same as saying "there IS no soul".

It's dang near impossible to prove a negative, and if you're being honest in voicing a scientist's opinion, you should realize that. Of course, as a scientist, I might or might not believe in a soul. But belief is not the same as knowledge.

This may seem like a lot of flip-flopping, but it's at the very center of being honest: things aren't as easy as yes/no for the most occasions. And while we as scientists know a LOT about the world, nobody could claim that we know ALL about the world.

I just figured since you have such a strong opinion... but it just ends there.

Its like Michael Moore, he'll expose all the shitty things that are going on behind the scenes but what do we do about it?

I've found that most people who don't believe in souls tend to be quite angry or cynical. I've always wondered why this is.

I also think we as humans can't really conclude a discussion such as this because we'd have to first be able to establish what a soul is. Unfortunately, we as humans aren't reaching our full potential, for example, we only use about 10% of our brain and, people might not know this, we don't breathe like we're supposed to, ie. using all our lungs and not breathing shallow.

And what about auras?

All this points to stuff that we're not completely aware of YET.

I've never known why people feel the need to believe there's 'more' to life, that there must be a reason we're here etc. The fact is we're simply organisms who will live and die just like the dog in your back yard and the leaf on a tree.

We're here essentially to propogate and continue our race, survival of the fittest, but once it's over it's over. That concept scares most people, hell it scares me, which explains the ludicrous concept of God and of course religion.

In other words mudtrailer is correct. Live life while you can because although you won't regret it when you're dead, because you're dead and it's over, you'll have missed your one opportunity at life.

As for aliens, well there's no reason why there wouldn't be other life forms elsewhere in the universe. I life exists on earth it stands to reason it exists elsewhere too. Finding it is another thing altogether though

I believe there might be something (probability math is the foundation of my religion), but I refuse to worship for several reasons. First, if there is a god, I'm probably worshipping the wrong one. Second, I believe the true eventual god would be annoyed at me if I worshipped another one. Third, it would be a waste of time if I'm wrong.

Well, nobody said God had to be a nice guy, eh? Although I do find it weird that someone who killed a guy (Onan) for spilling his sperm would encourage birth control by allowing AIDS to spread. Ah well, maybe it's just to test people. I'm going straight to hell if that theory is true anyway, not a single sperm of mine has been put to it's natural use.

you can´t really avoid cancer. Some lead a healthy life and die from cancer in the end. Some children don´t have a choice because their mother has aids and so they were born with it. I think that whole "you have the choice" thing is just blah because you simply don´t always have one. If you have a child and someone beats the crap out of him or her, do you sit there and watch? I´m pretty sure that I won´t. And if tehre is a God, which I don´t believe in as I said, then that´s exactly what he does....nothing. That´s not really the type of father that I wanna have. Oh but of course he gave me life...well thanks but I didn´t really ask for it.
