Far Beyond Driven is a masterpiece and should be regarded as such. I'ts been all downhill from there.

But I would like to hear another Down record. So far it is the only consistantly good Anselmo project. Unless you are of the persuasion of one who enjoys Cowboys era Pantera.

Far Beyond Driven for sure, Vulgar a close second though.

And for Down I havn't heard the 2nd record very much, but I think the first one is better.

Rex on bass, the record was planned, while "Nola" had more energy and spontaneity. It was more a garage band before Elektra decided to use them to replace Pantera

I'm perhaps the first person to not praise Pantera here. I must admit, I used to love Pantera in my youth. They were the band that got me into heavy music, and the band that made me realise that most bands are around are shite! I admire Dimebag and Vinnie Paul because together, they write some damn cool music, with my band, we cover Domination, a well written heavy track, though only should be heard live in my opinion. But, Anslemo is a prick! He his fucking dumb as shit!! Shite lyrics, and irritating singing... I say listen to something more damn sophisticated!! On the subject of their best album, VDOP is a classic, but the true studio masterpiece by this band was FBD. All in all, they saved me from a eternity of mediocre music!

Irritating singing ? On Vulgar he is perfect for me. On far beyond, he started to go more and more into growls, also because he ruined his voice with dope. On the last one his voice was far better, unfortunally compositions were a bit too weak in my opinion, a feeling of "deja vu"

Definitely their highwater mark for mine, the band were as tight as a fishes with some great songs and a singer who still had most of his faculties.

Trendkill for me is without a doubt their undisputed masterpiece. I've said it before and I'll say it again, that album is about as extreme as mainstream metal can get.

I took Trendkill as well it's the heaviest thing they ever did.

There are alot of good heavy tunes on Trendkill, but I can't take some of the pointless solo's. I know it's Dimebags thing, but some of the songs seem to have a solo, just for the sake of having a solo and it doesn't fit the rest of the song.
