Yeah, unless you're talking about some college radio show, or some weekly metal hour, Devin would never get played in the US. Which is a shame, because he does have some songs that I do feel would appeal to a wider audience if they ever got a chance to hear them.

KeasbyNights wrote:If Dev does decide to give singing a break, I would echo the other comments and say I'd be quite saddened. I do really love his voice. But does anyone think perhaps he's just a bit tired with the loud/full singing sort of required for metal? That seems to be the vibe I'm getting from his comments on twitter and recent interviews. He wants to just build birdhouses and play bass. Maybe take the subtle route for awhile. I think he could really do some great work in softer volume, like on Casualties. Ever since I listened to Believe, I've imagined what it would be like if he did some sort of folksy music. Maybe that sounds god-awful to some other people, but I really think he'd be good at it.

I think of quite a few different songs when I imagine what it would sound like. As an idea, I think of: Believe and Little Pig from Epiclouder. Most of Casualties, but especially Aquarius and Moonshine, Saloon from Unplugged (starting at 1:35 especially), and Humble from Terria. Am I insane? Of course it would be totally different from anything else, but imagine, a Devin album similar to Bon Iver or hell, even Fleet Foxes. Am I insane? If I am please just ignore me and my weird-ass fantasies.

Nope, you're not insane, I think something like that could be completely rad.

You're not far off. The station in question is independent and public funded, and it was played on a weekly metal program (that goes for two hours). I even know the DJ, he's a cool dude.
That said, there are a few stations (in Melbourne at least) that do play metal, most of which are indie and all have their own scheduled programming. If we're talking general stations that stick to one theme, you're not so likely to find Dev's (or any other non-mainstream artist's) music given airtime.

I have heard Dev a few times on satellite radio, but never on terrestrial. Well, except for on the syndicated radio show Full Metal Jackie. Dev does need someone in his camp who actively solicits his music in North America. However, with as little as he sells here, I don't think the label thinks it would be worth the effort. He can't sell because he can't get played, and he can't get played because he doesn't sell.

We have a rock station here that isn't afraid to take chances now and then. I may make an attempt with them again when Z² is released.

I'd love to be able to get an in with a station somehow here in Arizona. It would be great exposure for him, I'm certain. I doubt any of the stations on regular radio would have much success. There's one that plays hard rock/ sometimes metal, but they rarely get out of their 3 Doors Down, Godsmack, Metallica doldrums; I doubt I'd have much luck there. I should definitely look into it. It could be a way to promote the concert in December as well.

Ha! That's why I stopped listening to the radio here. Too much brocore you'd hear at the local hole in the wall.

The ratio is a bit off but you can figure that out right! Cheers.

Ahem. You might feel the need to post direct links to things - but the album is not officially released. This is a warning. Don't do it.

Referring to the image or the source of the artwork I might be giving away?

No, he was referring to the youtube link that was the full Dark Matters album. While not a leak download, it still was the full unreleased album. Anything that directly links to anything of the sort where you can hear the album like that is a no-no.

For those of us who haven't listened to the link, the newest lyric video for Rejoice is up:
