How can any one here, in this forum, possibly attempt to accuse Devin of "making something that just sounds thrown together"?

Effervescent is pointless? Really....so him putting it at the end of the album and the end of True North is pointless also? Someone needs to get this kid the Listening Party so you can hear Dev's insight on the thing. I think you're completely missing the point of the idea of the album.

I can assure you there are many things I can do much better than Dev I'm a fan of his music of course, but he is not untouchable. If someone has an opinion of an album, they're not simply wrong because you love the artist ever-so dearly. Are you suggesting that every single person who didn't absolutely adore the record to an unhealthy level needs it explained to them until they do? I can't stand the movie Donnie Darko. I had it explained to me several times and I still don't like it. Doesn't mean I'm unenlightened, stupid or wrong...it means I don't like the movie. Dev's a very talented musician with many fans, but he is not that much of a special geezer, don't be so silly.

When Ghost came out, it was "Oh yeah as a metalhead I've always been waiting for someone known for their extremely heavy music to put out a disc reminiscent of Enya." Fuck you, no you haven't, you just like that Devin did it. The same thing is happening with Epicloud. You'd all have a shitfit if some other metal musician put out a disc full of cheesy 80s style shit. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy parts of both albums, but don't act like you don't give a lot of stuff a pass simply because Devin did it.

Well dude, I mean I sympathize quite a bit, but that's also kinda bs. With Ghost, some of us do have a lot of dev's old demos and have always liked his more mellow shit, and then after hearing it would be more minimal I was instantly stoked. As far as cheesy 80s go, I have a Running Wild patch. You can't assume one way or the other or that you are of better taste or understanding. You can't have it both ways. Also, just like the extreme fanboys, work on your phrasing.

Ghost was up for a pretty prestigious award, and most metal outlets (not fan sites) that have talked about/reviewed epicloud have been universally praising. It's not my favorite of his but not my least favorite either

You are allowed to like things the way you do, you can think people are a bit overzealous, but that's them. I guess there's no reason to rain on everyone's parade either.

Some of us just need to not worry so much about what people think, and if they have a particular reaction, let 'em Your reaction is not my reaction, even if to a seperate 3rd person our reactions look exactly the same. My reaction is really the only reaction I care about, if other people want to think in the weirdest way possible, then that's their choice. I won't judge them for it, it's completely up to them.

Century Media delivered my preorder yesterday. I have only really had the chance to listen to it once. I heard the listening party and listened to the stream yesterday, too, before I got home to find my delivery. Anyway, having only listened to it about once, maybe twice, my initial impression is favorable. I think I like it better than Addicted, which I liked very much. I can't do a track by track analysis, though, right now. It usually takes me about five listens to get my head around a new DT album. Where We Belong is a cool song. I think the new version of Kingdom is very good, too. There are a couple songs I don't get into right now, but overall, I think it's a very fun, yet rocking album.

The second CD is a little inconsistent for me, though I didn't get to finish listening to all of it. It has gaps between the songs for me, too, which sucks as it is clear Dev meant there to be a flow. I need to listen to it some more to render a real judgement.

Anyway, very happy with this album.

Words of wisdom right there. For everyone, whether it's related to music or... well, pick your subject really.

Like what you like, dislike what you like. Just don't be an arsehole about it either way. It's a lesson I'm still learning but it's a fucking awesome one.

What is a concern (to me) is that the DTP continues making music. I'm a massive fan although some albums are better than others. Hey ho, that's life.

Some like it one way, others like it another. If you're gonna have a fan-base, you may as well make it multiple choice.

That's the awesome thing about Dev: if you don't like one album, no big deal! The next one is just around the corner, and it will probably be nothing like the previous one.
