I feel guilty of liking it too much, and I suppose I adore the flute in it because I've grown up with my sister consistently playing flute and it really grew on me. It's such a wonderful instrument and when I heard it on the Namm videos I was so happy.

This is pretty rediculous (although I am aware it has), you made it fairly clear from the beginning that this was how it's gonna go down. I love the record to bits, it's very sweet and you should be proud to call it your favourite; but if someone really doesn't like it to the point of being upset...listen to something else? My, that was easy.

I've ordered it, not because I feel obliged to as a fan; but because I think it's a fantastic record, and you wouldn't eat all the free samples in a chocolate shop without buying something, would you? (WOULD YOU?)

Keep doing what you're doing, the unpredictability (surprise factor?) of your tunes is what makes you, you. People who dislike it are jealous and smell bad.

Miss, I find your line of logic intriguing and I would like to sign up for your newsletter.

Passed on Ghost to a few folk who wouldn't necessarily be fans of other aspects of Dev's discography and it's been a fairly big hit so far (once I can actually get folk to listen! :P)

Not gonna obsess, but the music's been great for me, and I'll continue listenin'.

I was very excited about the album as I adore Devin's meditational calm parts. I also like flutes and am a big Jethro Tull fan as well as overproduced folk stuff like Enya and Clannad.

I have given Ghost one proper spin and it went through nicely although it didn't grab my attention or I was too excited about hearing it that the relaxing effect of the music went astray(if you can say that). I'm listening to it more and some songs take more hold of me. A few songs might be too long for their own good and the flute might be overused but the overall impression is good.

Geeez Dev. You make it sounds like a lot of people are hating on Decon and Ghost. From what I've read, the vast majority of comments and reviews are extremely positive.

Decon and Ghost are my favorite albums from DTP. Decon, because it is so adventurous and out there and it satisfies my cravings for chaos. And Ghost because of the peaceful vibes it gives off, while still being diverse enough and filled with lots of subtle details that keep me interested the whole way through. My kids love Ghost too, and a lot of Ki and Addicted. They will sing along to some parts of the songs. Actually one of em said that she really likes Drench, which I thought was funny. She's 6.

In general, I don't like pre-60's "rock." So I'm not a fan of Trainfire, but I think the track "Ghost" is great. It sounds 50's-ish to me, maybe it's more folky I don't know. But it's catchy as hell and fun, and the floaty and spacey ghost vibe makes it cool.

I like soft ambient music (I have a few windam hill records), instrumental music, and I LOVE spacey synth music. I like the Young Dubliners. I like OLD tupac. I like old Deicide, Morbid Angel and newer crazy stuff like Blotted Science, Behold the Arctopus...,etc.

And if there's anyone who has had a Katy Perry song stuck in his/her heard and claims to have NOT moderately enjoyed it...he/she is full of BULL SHIT.

I guess if you have a wide variety of musical tastes, it's hard to be disappointed by The Dev. Cuz with Dev, you never really know what you're gonna get. And that's why I keep comin' back for more. :)

My one teeeny tiny gripe with Ghost is that sometimes the reverb/echo on the vocals makes it tough for other people to sing along when they really want to, but can't quite understand the words.

This album is beautiful - I don't rate is as highly as Deconstruction, only because I consider Decon a masterpiece. I've listened to Ghost maybe seven times, enjoying it increasingly with each spin. It's a fitting end to the DTP, and I love the terrain it traverses: I would love to listen to this album while exploring the Rocky Mountains, and I hope that one day I will. Devin, you spoil us. Can't wait to get my hands on the box set!

Verdo wrote:hello Folks

I listened to Ghost a couple of times yesterday and this morning. I think it is a very good album (again!)
My fave seems to be "Infinite Ocean".

But I wanted to share a thought with all of you: Maybe because of the flute, this albums reminds me a lot of VANGELIS' albums like Oceanic or Voices.
Anyone here enjoys Vangelis too?

for those who don't know Vangelis, I think that if you enjoyed Ghost, you should like Vangelis too.
It's actually quite a bit Vangelis. Voices and Oceanic are the two contenders which sounds the closest.

Vangelis is a genious and everybody should own all his albums.

Lol, now Devin is making people feel bad for liking his music too much
It is kinda funny tho how a guy on another forum noted that pretty much every positive review for a Devin album starts with refering to Devin being a "musical genius" or someting along those lines. I bet it bothers Devin himself as well as he has many times stated that he doesn't think he's especially awesome in any way.

^And now you are making me feel bad, cause although I do enjoy Vangelis, I own none of his albums

I do hear some similiarities though, although I don't remember Devin mentioning Vangelis anywhere. Wonder if he's a conscious influence.

For anyone who said they feel "guilty" about enjoying it too much after Devin's post, I hope you aren't being too serious. If you really, really enjoy it, that's a great thing, I don't care what anyone has to say. Like it as much and as loudly as you want, you have just as much right to praise it as you do to criticize it. Life's too depressing to not just love some things unashamedly sometimes :). Same with disliking it, no one should feel bad about that. The albums are in 4 different styles and everyone has personal tastes, obviously your gonna like some things and dislike others. All opinions are relevant in a discussion like this.

I don't see what the big deal is about liking something a lot...if you do, you do. There's no point disecting it to "see why" or to push yourself to think otherwise :D I just trust my intuition and move on. Dev can do his own critiquing of his music, I'm just a random person who thinks he's good at it, and I admire that he's honest with his music and his ideas on whatever the topic is. However I want no say in Dev's musical decisions and directions, he's the only one who should have a say in that department.

So Devin has managed to make people feel guilty for liking his music too much and too little - that's frigging hilarious!! Seriously though, I'm sure he never intended to imply either.

Exactly. It's funny how critiquing the man's work comes that much more difficult when the man himself can see what you say. Luckily DT is open to any criticisms. I can easily imagine some artists taking the "Stay positive or fuck off" attitude. In fact, I have heard of something like that happening at places...
