To be honest, I've never really found surroundings to enhance the music at all. Bar the obvious going to see the artist live... plus I don't think I really have the patience to be able to sit there for that long, as nice as it looks.

So, general DTP question; Awake has 'NOW DECONSTRUCT!', a poltergeist is some kind of a Ghost, and As You Were has an A Monday reference. Does Demon League really relate to Addicted at all?

i'm doing the same. there's a dude at work, philosophy teacher, who is into quite arty music... prog, psychadelic folk, jeff buckley :P and I really get along with him. Anyway I showed him some of decon the other day, fully knowing he doesn't like heavy shit BUT that he would appreciate the awesomeness of dev. He didn't like the heavy for sure, but was very interested. I showed him the vid of dev talking and playing guitar thats on youtube yesterday and he was cracking up, said dev was clearly extremely intelligent. Played him ghost today thinking yeah, he'lll love it.. turns out he really hates ambient stuff (panpipes is a conversation we had recently after i bought a set) and really couldn't connect weith ghost. I've given him a burnt copy anyway and he's gonna give it another go!

i gave him a copy of thomas giles' (~tommy rodgers) solo album couple days ago and he loved it, so at least that was a success!

just doing the 4 dtp albums togerther for the first time. Started KI when I left work, on Awake! atm, which is n icely blasting through my stereo. Am so happy, loving addicted like when it was first released... listening to decon and ghost have really made addicted seem fresh again, which is great.

pizza and garlic bread in the oven, pint of budweiser in my glass (i ordinarily drink a nice ale, but opted for the cheap 4 pack for the evening... i am ashamed!)

my evening is going to be awesome!

Sounds like a wonderful evening, most definitely. How's Tommy's solo album, btw?

I also didn't sit completely still, I explored. I stood on a giant rock overlooking the ocean during Poltergeist. That was pretty damn cool.

They lead in together better than you'd think, and then when you look at the lyrics, I think they go together pretty darn well.

its really, really, good... very proggy. Not heavy... there's a bit of screaming and electronic stuff in the middle, but for the most part its quite ... i dunno the word, focussed. there are some pink floyd elements, some jeff buckley-esque bits. Its difficult to describe.

Dude at work said as he listened through it he was really engaged by it and he didn;tr know what to expect next... which he loved (and is what i like)

i've only heard the between the buried and me ep that's been released recently, was extremely impressed... but this is EXTREMELY different to that

i love it :D

Thanks bud, I'm going to let Ghost digest quite a bit more then try Tommy's album. BTBAM is great though, I definitely recommend their other stuff. New EP is indeed killer.

cheers dude... checking them out is definitely in my to do list

think i'm probably really pissing the neighbours off, shouting along to Stand at the moment... half a pizza and 1 garlic baguette gone. 1 and 3/4 beers left... my partner is out this evening and i'm going to meet her at 10, she's wheat intolerant so i'm eating as much wheat based product as possible because i never get to have any really... anyways d'you know whaty i'm thinking... i think dev should've got akerfeldt to do some guest clean vox on ghost (or ki) aswell as decon

Gonna listen to Ghost tonight...

Part of me wants to save it until I go to Sweden because that would be *perfect* but that's friggin mid-late July. I listened to Decon on my birthday, today was my last official day of school (next is uni) so it also seems a celebratory thing.

Glad Ghost leaked after Decon, though. Leaked in the right order! Woo!

Also, where was that A Monday reference in Decon? Planet Of The Apes? (just an aside)

Didn't really enjoy it much first listen. I'm not too surprised since Ki was my least favorite out of the first three DTP albums; and that was because of tracks like Ain't Never Gonna Win, Winter, and some of the other really mellow ones (Terminal) that really do not interest me much. The subdued, soft-singing Dev does not really evoke much of an emotional response from me - the only times I'll ever tear up listening to some hevydevy are at moments like the climax of Deadhead or Storm where you can really experience the power and passion in his "hard" singing voice. Those types of triumphant moments are really what I love most about his music.

Ghost is a very pretty record and while I did enjoy bits and pieces throughout, none of them really stuck with me. I feel like if this didn't have Devin's name attached to it I probably wouldn't have listened to the whole thing. I will listen to it a few more times, but I have a feeling this will go the way of Ki for me and not really get much playtime. And Ki did have those amazing moments like in Disruptr where Dev hits that high note at the end (was fantastic seeing that live) or the singing at the end of the song Ki - I need those emotional moments!!

Ok then, let me chip in my own dick sucking and analysing:
I am in love with Ghost. It was love on first listen! It's such a warm romantic album, and despite all the positive vibes it never feels patronising. Like, a lot of lovey-dovey stuff feels like it excludes people who are single or not in a relationship, like you can't participate. Ghost feels more like... a forgiving family love, than a crush. Maybe thats kinda cheesy, but its true! :D
Decon is a nutjob who takes a stapler to your nuts, but you can't help but love her anyway...

yep, it starts right when the first half dies down into the clean, lovely part (around 5:40).

Actually, as it stands right now, Ki is my favorite of the bunch. I feel its the most well rounded and has stood up best to repeated listens. And it's COMPLETELY unique amongst his discog.

Addicted is fun but doesn't have that much staying power with me. The catchy hooks abound, but it's short and doesn't stick with me as much as some of his other records.

Deconstruction gets so lost up its ass in certain parts that I just can't take it yet. The real standouts for me are Juular, Mighty Masturbator, and Pandemic. But as a whole I find it pretty flawed at the moment, time will tell though, I've only spent about a week with it.

Ghost I'm wishing was a little more bare bones, but maybe Ghost II is more what I'm after. Really only spent one night with this record so its very early to comment.
