If you didn't follow Devin too closely and went from listening to Decon to Ghost, you might think he was kidding. In fact, if you did know his sense of humor, you might even suspect more strongly that he was just taking a piss. I mean, the same guy that screams his balls of on Storm or Love? is this guy on stage with the acoustic guitar and the flute player?

WUT?

What if Devin was just, like, "hmmm, I wonder what I could get my fans to buy? What would really warp their minds? More extreme metal? Nah, they like that. ::gasp:: That's it!! Totally mellow flute music with a country twang! Masterful!"

Anyway, I giggled when I thought of it. Clearly, this is not a joke, and the music is beautiful. But, only a true indie artist like Devin could pull off a Uturn like this. What's most impressive is that a bunch of us are going with him. This is head-shakingly awesome.

I played The live acoustic recording of Hide Nowhere for someone first and then Ziltoid. I got an interesting reaction.

I know this. I was introducing Devy's music to someone in school; I started with Shitstorm, then played A Monday, then played The Mighty Masturbator during the spacey-techno breakdown and then some random shit off Infinity. Epic lulz were had by everyone but me; nobody believed that it was the same musician all the time :P

For me it's not so much as following Dev but going on a similar journey with him. Being old (ish, 37), less angry and having a different persepective on life after having my little boy, heavy music isn't something I need anymore, I still want it - it's just that I don't need it. What Dev allows me to do is listen to music at all the different stages of my life without having to specifically change artists/genres to do so. Don't get me wrong I don't just listen to Dev but his music has always been honest and incredibly emotional which is something very hard to find in any genre/artist. To have the luxury of being able to enjoy that honesty and emotion as I and my musical tastes change is awesome. :)

This video gives me the same kinda feeling as Ghost does.

Oh God and Jesus and everything that is holy... a collaboration between Devy and Ludovico Einaudi would be AWESOME. I had the luck to see the man play in a big famous theatre in Amsterdam; it was amazing.

I agree with this. I'm 39 and relate often to the songs very personally. And for similar reasons as you described.

Said it before, will say it again:

Ghost is perhaps the record I'm proudest of any record I've made so far. It's not too interesting from a few typical angles, but what it says to me I'm very proud of.

I would like to make this type of sound much more.

Kat Epple is an amazing inspiration.

Anyways... rawwwwrrrr....
