My Zappa recommendations are the mid-70's stuff. One Size Fits All and its Live Companion (which is all original material) Roxy and Elsewhwere. "Echidna's Arf (of You)" is some of the craziest music ever recorded (and it's my ringtone, woohoo).

The Grand Wazoo is also excellent.

This is if you're more into the instrumental and musical side of things. There are other better examples of his humor and social commentary.

AHA! I knew Dev was just a prog dork at heart! :D

IF you listen to it for what it is, (a complete summary of everything I've done and a reflection of the reasons why...) it makes syl seem like petulant childs play. The difference between checkers and chess.

No wonder Devin expresses such enthusiasm for these new albums - sounds like he feels like he can truly be himself, and it really doesn't matter if it is not accepted by everyone. That is such a hard thing to learn.

No love for Zappa's 60's albums with The Mothers?

Very interesting footage, especially the "Mad at my Dad" bit. Never expected Dev to do Grindcore on this record, hope it makes the cut!
Dev doing Grind? MY DREAM HAS COME TRUE!!!

I sooooo agree!

Hey there, so I'm familiar with some of Devs choices for Decon like Dirk from soilwork, but I'd really like to hear from you'll on your personal choices on albums showcasing his selected musicians as to highlight why you think Dev may have chose them for this particular project. My apologies in advance if this has been posted before I just couldn't find a solid list of albums by these great musicians hand selected by the elite of this board. Hell! It would be awsome if Mr. Townsend had a minute during his busy schedule to throw in his 2 cents. Thanks in advance! I'm needing something to tie me over

And have yourselves a "PORKUELINN" kind of day!

Wow, thanks for posting (or re-posting, perhaps) that vid - hadn't seen it before. Dirk is really quite amazing! Cannot wait to hear this stuff in its entirety (like everybody else here...)

Dirk is absolutely phenomenal a drummer. I've only seen a few clips of him, but it's all rather stunning.

As for Deconstruction... I enjoy SYL but really only in phases, simply because it's so dark, both musically and lyrically. Enjoyable, yes, but also exhausting. I listened to Alien in full for the first time in a good few years yesterday and it's genuinely just a bit disturbing - great, mind. Deconstruction simply sounds like it's going to be more palatable in that regard.

I'd also add "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol.2" to that list, since they're play all the best songs from that era, but a lot faster, and they have like, 6 less people playing than at the Roxy concert, so it has more of an intimate feel to it.

I would say that the original mother's line-up was the second best group he played with. All the music they did was an excellent parody of pop at the time, and there was enough classical and jazzy stuff to it to make it technically pleasing. Only the early 70's group was better, in my opinion.

And to stay on topic...

This is how every other album from DTP has been to me, so I'm fairly certain we won't let down.

I haven't eaten McChokeAndPukes since 2006. Hesburger I've only eaten twice since moving to Finland. Subway's turkey sandwiches or veggie is the only fast food I'll eat these days.

I can pretty much say the same thing, except I haven't eaten anything from McShits since 2002. I confess that I did eat KFC and sometimes Burger King (or Hungry Jacks as it's called here), but that I've pretty much given that up since about 2009. If I'm going to have cheeseburger, I'll make my own.
The song previously entitled Cheeseburger I cannot wait to consume.
