I've had this theory for a while that each of Devs albums has been like a 'phase'. Ziltoid was a seperation of the 'Angry/SYL' and 'Calm' Dev (Ziltoid being the angry Dev,) 'Ki' was a 'everythings cool, life is good' vibe, and 'Addicted' was Dev's 'But I like rockin out too!' mood. I'm kinda thinking Deconstruction and Ghost will be the more darker phases.

...plus I'm thinking we'll see an SYL-type album when Dev sees his kids college bill.

I've tried to get into spacemusic, like John Serrie, but like Dev said, I find it too lifeless.
It's good when I'm trying to sleep during a mania, though.

For alot of people, it's not something that you can just dive into... in a way it's almost like you have to train yourself to fully get the most out of it, much the same way that you don't just "decide" to be a Zen master and suddenly you're an expert at meditation after only a few attempts... but if you can make it work for you, spacemusic does wonders for smoothing out life's rough edges and introducing a little calmness into the ever-raging storm that modern day life has become. It's been more effective for me than the laundry list of meds I've tried over the years.

Of course, more tunes like The Death of Music would be at the top of my wishlist... you get the ambiance but the emotional intensity too. The best of both worlds.

Am I the only one looking forward to Decon more than Ghost? Haha, It's just been a while since a truly balls-out heavy album from Devin (Apart from the odd moment on Ki, Alien is the most recent angry album in my honest, but probably wrong opinion).

Well, there's hardly anything in recorded history that's as angry as Alien.

pretty sure City can split the earth in half, though it's generally pissed off and violent about external things, whereas Alien is much more internally frustrated and angry; the only songs with angry lyrics on the latter are "Shitstorm," "Love?" to an extent, and "We Ride," whereas basically every song on City is an all-out assault on something or someone. there's no comparison, really; City even sounds angrier (i.e. way more groove-oriented music on Alien).

Yeah, that's a pretty good point! But I think why I feel Alien is angrier is that internal anger can be
just as devestating if not more so than external. Maybe that's why I personally feel Alien is angrier,
because I've had my share of internal frustration with myself and the way I think and act so it really
hits home so to speak. Or it could just be me talking out of my ass. But this isn't a class in psychology.
Hahah. But yeah, City is one god-damn angry record. It's been a while since I've listened to it though.
Think I need to give it a couple of spins pretty soon.

Don't get me wrong... Decon is not a 'do I have to?' kind of thing for me... it's full-on and 150% legit. Maybe more than that...

My problem is that I love that energy so much that it leads me to poor life decisions, so engaging in it makes me a touch nervous.

HOWEVER

I trust myself and my strength more than I ever could have hoped I would. And lyrically, it adheres to something that is a huge passion for me. (inner strength... or is it inner-tubes? ahh well...)

Ahh, I can see why that makes Ghost... For the lack of a better word; a relief then.

Awesome, I love songs about inner strength..being a cancer survivor it puts a whole new spin on the idea of what it really is.

Ah, Shitstorm... I remember the first time I listened to it. I wanted to grab everyone I had ever known my entire life by the collar and say

"HERE! Listen to THIS! THIS is how I feel! THIS is what is going on in my head ALL THE TIME!"

Well, most of the time... the rest of it was drop-dead depression.

Thanks to Devin for finding a way to express how I was feeling... nothing I could say or describe could have done it better. And I am thrilled that there may be more of that coming our way.

We'll see...
