I listened to Love? for the first time in ages the other day. Its certainly the most prolifically "mainstream", but I forget how accessible and brilliant that song is.

I'm not really a SYL fan (I'm all about DT's solo stuff) but I LOVE Love? Its just kick ass with hints of his solo side within the brutality... terrific tune.

Where Ki and Addicted (though different from what Dev has done in the past) have been quite easy to get into, I'm hoping that Decon will be harder to grasp, harder to comprehend or enjoy at first but yet after a few spins become mind blowing and emotionally draining.... Ocean Machine did this for me back in 98'... I remember feeling exhausted after listening to it from start to finish.... it was just THAT overwhelming.

Still compiling the job list for Decon. HUGE HUGE project, biggest I've undertaken conceptually and physically. If I can pull it off, it's going to turn some folks on their ears.

...of course, there's going to be people who currently really like Addicted that probably will dislike it.

You do what you do and it'll be done when its done. After that it's all gravy.

The biggest respect you can get is that some people hate one of your albums - an album that doesn't gain an emotional response, positive OR negative, is just a shiny frisbee to be. As others have said already in this thread, bring it on!

I like all the albums equally. Ki and Ghost (to me) are every bit as powerful as Decon or Addicted. It's observations on subtlety vs. stimulus in the same light as 'good' vs 'evil'.

Nice - the heaviest thing is contrast. Silence can be as deafening as a blast beat and is arguably as essential. One puts adrenalin in your veins and another puts a lump in your throat. That's why I've loved parts 1 & 2 equally so far and, I'd wager, why 3 & 4 will hit the spot too.

Perhaps it's time to bring back Gene Hoglan, and perhaps bring about the Meshuggah drummer and (I know I'll be getting flamed for this) Joey Jordison?

I feel like based on his performance in Addicted, RVP most certainly deserves a shot at some of Decon's stuff if he's an option.

Take some Skeksis, take some Solar winds and a bit of N9, take some Consequence, take some of the middle of Supercrush, take the stream of conscience element of Devlab.

It would be SO EASY to do it all on drum machine, but so much cooler with real drummers. I have 3 so far, trying to contact 2 more. (can't find one person to do it all...) it's very complicated drum parts, lots of memory and patience required for the poor dudes.

I've always wondered, does that mean Blind Melon's Soup album could have only been 72 minutes because of the song before track 1? Or is the standard 74 mins plus 1.5mins of extra space?

Oh my god this is going to be the best Dev album ever.

I'm a sucker for classical influence, so Virgil draws me in too (I'm studying him at school).
