dev the closest thing to something i diddent like that you did was devlab. (track 8 has got to be my fav devtronica type song you'v done) so i dont think decons going to prove to be an unfavorable listen. so yea ill be buying it.

Some times when I've bought a cd I've assumed I'd like, but on first listen I go "ughhhh what's this?" about 10 listens later, it's sounding like the best freshest stuff I've ever heard.

Right. I mean, we hosted a poker party tonight for an audience with a mean age of 43, and they loved your new stuff. So they're hoping you put out some Bon Jovi type shit. But, I love the chaos, and so does the rest of the youth. Youth meaning 30's and younger. So bring it, and bring it HARD!

Fuck Rick Moranis.

Having bought my favourite Smashing Pumpkins albums on LP, and played them on a decent, not great, sound system, I can definitely agree with that. The Adore mono makes Billy's vocals absolutely shine, he sounds like he's in the room. In Utero and Opiate also sound fantastic, only record I have that does NOT sound better than the CD is Lateralus (and Gish, cos the original master just isn't as good). I don't think most of the Devin records would sound great on LP, mainly because all of the songs flow into each other, and you have to have a break between sides somewhere. That said, would love to own them. And if some genius works out a way to get 5.1 sound from a record (never happen, but i can dream) I would cream my jeans.

Yeah, remember, this dtp is a story. Addicted is meant to be what it is. It's meant to get the attention of those folks without selling out. It's meant to be a throwback to an older style as almost a parody. The more mainstream attention Addicted gets, the more shocking Decon. will be.

I like all the albums equally. Ki and Ghost (to me) are every bit as powerful as Decon or Addicted. It's observations on subtlety vs. stimulus in the same light as 'good' vs 'evil'.

It makes more sense as a whole project. No single quarter of the process is a definition. In fact, every record is the SAME THING with a different presentation as far as I'm concerned.

Deconstruction is the bulk of the story. How to describe it? hmmm...

Take some Skeksis, take some Solar winds and a bit of N9, take some Consequence, take some of the middle of Supercrush, take the stream of conscience element of Devlab, lots of electronic sounds, some blast beats, some trance, lots of dark without fear, orchestra and choir, with LOTS of quiet bits abruptly thrown in, and an abundance of guitar wankery.

A humourous take on Virgil leading Dante, some budget Wagner and Stravinsky influences ...more like budget Star Wars soundtrack influence...(budget meaning naiive orchestration experience)

Writing this sort of stuff is the most labor intensive, yet easiest music for me to write.

It would be SO EASY to do it all on drum machine, but so much cooler with real drummers. I have 3 so far, trying to contact 2 more. (can't find one person to do it all...) it's very complicated drum parts, lots of memory and patience required for the poor dudes.

I've hoped so much to just suddenly hear Bender on the local crappy radio station at work, right after a Nickelback song, and then to headbang in front of all the frightened customers. I'd love to walk past a Sanity or HMV and see Addicted up the front where the Black Eyed Peas and Andre Rieu usually sit, and suddenly have everyone talking about it and digging through the back catalogue. Then hearing Decon. and shitting themselves.

For some reason the thing that grabbed me the most about this description was the part about the quiet bits. For some reason I just think that those abrupt quiet parts will seriously make this album for me. I absolutely love that sort of thing.

Love the orchestra and choir... I hope to hear a little of the tiny tears type thing, it blows my mind every time I hear it!! And WANKERY too!!! KILLER

I hope this album is 4hrs long so we can get a good chunk of everything you have talked about and more than one drummer at a time or just that complex that no one drummer can handle it? Poor dudes is right if you need that many!!

Whoa. Wagner too? Like his operas, or symphonies? Either way...BRING IT. Also, I think alot of your music already has that John WIlliams-esque feel to it. Ya know, the hopeful lydian style themes and such.

I know you love the Rite of Spring, but some Firebird influence would be great too....

Deconstruction is sounding more and more appealing to me with every one of your posts. I was kind of just dismissing it as the "heavy" one, thinking Addicted would be my fave because it would have the most bombast. Sounds like I might be wrong!

This sounds great. I'm a sucker for epic albums that have a ton of artists. I loved the last Ayreon album. :alien:

I listened to Love? for the first time in ages the other day. Its certainly the most prolifically "mainstream", but I forget how accessible and brilliant that song is.

Back on topic, from what you've described Devin, its sounding like a fantastic contrast. Like green is to red. I was really relieved when you started talking about that struggle between subtlety and stimulus, its exactly what I had in my head.

I'd just like to thank you for inadvertently giving me at least a portion of my musicians ear and writing skills from your music. It definitely allows me to make much more satisfying and fluent music. I've got a busy week ahead of me so I doubt I'll be on this much.

I hope everything goes well meanwhile.
