I think it's a little crazy when people try to almost put a formula to music.
like trying to explain it needs a certain time signature or bpm to be "good'.
it's all about how the musician condenses their emotions into the music!

Yeah, Decon is a mind fuck, but in a way...it's an album for recovering addicts. It's really fucking brutal, but sometimes you have to be to get your point across.

I discovered yesterday that the beast within me is part of me. It's how I choose to use it.

Again, once you're a pickle, you can never be a cucumber again.

Boobies, eh? There's your album cover right there.

Awwww.... you'll always be a cucumber to us. :)

Interesting metaphor... is it like, there's some things that once seen, can never be un-seen? Or more like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly?

I definitely respect and love the amount of heart/thought that goes into your albums and the reasons WHY and how you write.

Great stuff. Its amazing though, getting the info for Deconstruction helps subdue the way for addicted.

YESSSSSSSSS. Finally, an album just for me!!

I like the fact that you used the word "recovering" also. That is VERY important. :D

So is Deconstruction still going to be choral and symphonic like you said a while back? I love me some heavy music with epic string-y parts.

I second this. Ro's art is sweet, and I still wear my old Aussie tour shirt with Ro's Dev characature on the front, paper thin though it now is.

Finding it very difficult to get a sense for just what Decon is going to sound like (not that I've ever been able to with a Devin Townsend album!). But this is more elusive... I suspect something surprising is in store.

I like the Cucumber Metaphor (now there's a proggy title for ya!)... gets me thinking about loss of innocence and naivety, and the wisdom that comes with success and failure, hurt and love, looking for control and realising that in many ways control is a different concept to what you thought it was, and all these things. Getting older, discovering that it's true that the more you know, the more you realise you know so little.

Yeah. :P

Yeah, I'm not afraid of the monster in me...it's me! So we're doing a very weird dance together. Lots of respect, and more than a little wrestling.

It's the whole shitteroo...with what I've learned production wise to keep it clean.

Melodies that roll around in my head at a volume that I'm suprised passerbys can't hear.

It's very dynamic though, for every moment of bludgeon, there's some space.

Taking it slow though, it's very easy for this one to get the upper hand.

A couple of nice descriptions of life right there.

Appreciate the thought and reflection that it sounds like you 're putting into this one. After Addicted's fun and living-in-the-now, it sounds like this will be the next course of a pretty filling four-course meal....just need to work out what the musical equivalent of exercise is to burn off the calories! Maybe some German hardcore electro or Japanese noise.

Dude, you're too kind.

Finally finished the Nick Cave painting that has been sitting on my easel for the last 2 and a half years (long story.... ok, not that long. Had kids. Life got derailed for a while), and a couple of weeks ago did a painting in 3 days for a friend's 40th. (Yes: I am old. Yes: I have friends. ...no, not many.) Figured I'd better put up some linkage. Feel free to stop on by, introduce yourself if you like.

 Okay, enough about me, back on topic...

Never be unseen, eh? Going for the more ominous angle then.

Listened to Addicted (the song) itself at noisecreep.com today and while it's far too early to make comment on the song itself (cause I want to hear it in context with the rest of the album) I will say that production wise, it's absolutely magnificent. Totally totally awesome. Purely from a technical, sonic, audio-centric perspective, each album just sounds better and better. And while Physicist probably isn't as high on the list as City or Terria as everyone's favourite Dev album, I'm particularly looking forward to hearing any redux versions of some of those songs. I'm currently remixing a bunch of my old stuff from a decade ago, and it's very interesting to me to listen to the perspective that time can bring.

Fucking loved Ki. Super stoked to hear all of Addicted, and equally as excited about Deconstruction & Number Four. Did you end up getting your mate Brooks for the Decon drumming?

Anytime from now on, when I think of Spielberg, it will be of that characiture.

Amazing fucking work.
