Without Devin... No syl. Now Devin is FREE without syl. And it's better like that for the future. Because when you have pressure (other members?) the inspiration dissapeared progressively and in the same time the ambition... and the passion of the music. When Devin work alone and arranged everything like he want (eventually with sessions musicians to play HIS music) the inspiration is infinite with no negative influence or code... It's in this moment that Devin is the better and do genius music from the heart with a lot of emotions. Devin I hope you continue like that. Be yourself...

I don't think Dev should be explaning himself anymore re: SYL

Some musicians make the same music over and over and over again, but Dev isn't one of them. That's why we like him, right!?

At the end of the day, Dev's fans fall into 3 groups. Those who love SYL and nothing else, those who love his solo stuff and nothing else, and those who love it all. He shouldn't feel the need to type epic responses on here to what is only a fraction of his fans, when he's got 3 albums in the works!!!!

SYL is over - hail the future Dev !!!!!! :D

Will you be keeping up the use of female vocalists for the last two albums? Mrs. Aguilera on Decon, maybe? :P

now that's what I call an extensive explanation, thanks Dev.

I personally must admit (and nearly insist :D) that I'd love to hear Gene on that album, bust just because of his unique drumming style, I simply love for example the time-delayed double-bass on many SYL-songs (as at least comes to my ears, very noticeable on the SYL - For Those.. DVD), who ever programmed it.

I have to say though, that I would have been more disappointed if Devin quit his "more mellow" solo music those days instead of SYL, because of the unbeatable variation of styles and showing ability to be one of the best composers and musicians ever born (sorry for adulation). Although I'm a huge fan of strapping and got into his kind of music through that so to say ten ton hammer of intensity, I don't want to figure at all what would Dev have become if he quit just his solo projects for instance and not SYL.

I also support the opinion of thinking that The New Black lacks of some let's say "utterly complete craziness" that was once SYL, concerning that, it must have been the right choice to make TNB a remarkable and, concerning intention, perfect swansong. :dead:

I wouldn't mind a touring session of the SYL-line up performing their "best of" either some day
(and I guess he never excluded that possibility, so let's hope for that)

The only heavy stuff you've ever heard me do is with Gene, keep in mind that EVERY beat on City (minus the fills and a few things) were Gene learning EXACTLY what I programmed...

I have never had the pleaseure of doing my thing with anybody else, Gene and I rocked hard, but I'm VERY excited about a new flavor.

Theres one guy in particular, but I don't know if he'll be up for it. (busy busy)

90% of the drums are written, it's just mental, and needs to be tights as a frogs ass.

I have one name for you. MARIO DUPLANTIER. Just kidnap him.

besides tracks like Hope and Wrong Side it does lack in the complete craziness... Though the other tracks do include some feel.

But i believe that was the point. The whole album was anti-mass while still being mass acceptable. Sort of a catch 22 how Devin feels he cannot create music without going crazy with it but here are a handful of people urging him to present himself and his chaotic side to people who are not accustom to more extreme chaotic music.

from what I've heard so far, there's only one choice: Marco Minnemann
He's one of the craziest guys out there, always open minded for new things and directions – funky jazz, Pop, corossover, then Paul Gilbert and Necrophagist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pinyErZJ8_s )
I am listening to his stuff for years (Illegal Aliens, Solo projects), very entertaining. Right now he teamed up with Mike Keneally and Bryan Beller, but he's got so many projects going on, it's insane.
Rock hard, dude! Maybe my dreams come true 8)

I don't want to be an ass, but why include the DTB guys for Addicted, but none of the SYL guys for Deconstruction?

Is Deconstruction just too far away from the SYL vibe to include any of them?

that thought had just crossed my mind as well. I figured that if Devin announced that the SYL guys were all getting back together to make a DTP record then the hype would surround the idea of it being SYL and not DTP. Then Devin would be stuck in that tunnel of what others expect him to write and record then the whole freedom he currently has so far with DTP would be lost.

And possibly DTB recorded Addicted together because that pressure was never there with the solo material to record what others were expecting rather than what he wanted.
