In the booklet there is no mention of it under the equipment used.

And, it says this:

"Drums and support provided by Fredrik Thordendal".

He's the guitar player in Meshuggah. I'm so confused. :?

Yes.Don't you hear it? He should have played if with real drums. I saw reviews that say, that the drum sound is "shitty". :( I think it is goood..

I think Fredrik gave/loaned Devin his drum program, and provided over-the-phone support. I could be wrong, though...

As for the drum sound, I don't see the point in programming drums and trying to make them sound real. Especially for this project; I think the inhumanly fast drums suit the futuristic space-metal sound. I did notice, however, that in my car (which has a very good sound system), the drums tend to dominate the mix. But it definitely makes for a very rhythm-based album, which is good...

I think the drum sounds are great, especially the bass drums. Not too fond of the cymbal sounds, but theyre not bad.

Nope, you're right. Fredrik sent the Drumkit from Hell to Dev.

I really liked the "drumming" on this album. The precision helped the whole Ziltoid theme.

I've just recently started using Drumkit From Hell myself. It is badass.

That's not entirely true, though. It says "Toontrack EzDrummer", which is the drum plug-in where Drumkit from Hell (one of several drumkits) is included.

I think the drumming is the weak point of this album. It sounds unnatural and lacks dynamics.
When using programmed drums, you should either do it perfect so there's hardly any notable difference between the programmed drums or a real drummer, or go totally over the top and do stuff a real drummer couldn't do. Dev didn't do either of those, which kind of disappointed me. Also, all cymbal hits seem to be at maximum velocity which sounds really fake in the quieter parts.

I even think that using DFH caused Ziltoid to sound a bit monotonous, lacking variety in tempos, mainly.

Still love the album though :)

i bet there are a ton of albums with triggered drums which you consider to be the most natural thing ever :P

a purist one, actually, cause i hate triggering, and yet you don't see me complaining about DKFH :D
I mostly think that hey, if you can't play, then don't play. You either do it with no triggering orrr program the whole shit. I also think vinyl DOES sound better than CDs, so hey, i'll just fuck off
