Portugal:Netherlands was a substitute for the Croatia:Serbia&Montenegro slaughter. A true balkan party that was. No sportsmanship whatsoever, but that's the way it is these days, everything for the win, why give the ball back to Portugal if they sent it away to attend to the injury of one of their players, and risk another goal ... Amazing game to watch nonetheless, Portugal's defense is just stunning. I believe they are so pissed now they will humiliate England who haven't showed nothing against Ecuador except the golden foot of the golden boy.

Aussies will kick Italy's ass today, I know it, and Spain will put the French out of their misery. Brasil will walk, while I have absolutely no idea what will happen with the Swiss against the Ukrainians.

And that's exatly what they did, but unfortunately they're out.
I'm really sorry for Australia... The played much better than Italy.

It's not entertaining to see Italy play... And to win in that way it's not funny at all... :(

Unfortunatley for you, the Netherlands are out too now..

UNfortunately? I'm happy they're out! If you had been paying attention you would have known (that's what my teachers say to me too) that I wasn't favouring my country at all. I never liked the coach, they played bad and the entire nation has gone mad in their "Orange-craze". Now, it's all over, and in two weeks we'll get some talking about how Germany won it with a style of play that would be worthy of the 'great Dutch generation' of 74/78, and how The Netherlands didn't make it with a German style.

Anyhow, Australia is out now, no more Dutch input whatsoever.

Disappointed.
Though on paper we would never realistically be expected to beat Italy, who are always defensively sound. Our forwards didn't play to the best of their abilities - Viduka was a little underwhelming for most of the tournament, and we could definitely have used Kewell, H. in that game, though it was almost inevitable that he'd be injured yet again.

Was it a penalty? Nope. Grosso tripped over a prone Lucas Neill and fell as if shot.
Not warranted either, was Materazzi's red card earlier in the second half. We had the numerical advantage for 40 minutes and couldn't capitalise, as we were almost always outnumbered when going forward. Great tactics from Lippi. Once again, the referreeing at the World Cup has proven itself incapable of matching the pace that the games are played at...and some of it has been woeful.

Very proud of the Socceroos, and nonetheless I shall be fully behind Italy in their game against the Ukraine - who have made it this far courtesy of a shocking Shevchenko dive vs Tunisia (now, that was a terrible decision), and who are in the Quarter Finals at the expense of Switzerland, who were eliminated despite not conceding a single goal during the entire tournament. :?

(with Shevchenko joining Robben at Chelsea next season, they should install a diving pool at Stamford Bridge )

I still say Argentina, though this Friday's game between them and Germany has the potential to be a World Cup classic, as both are playing very attractive attacking football.
Miss that one at yer own peril.

Australia should have won. it was the worst possible senario they were given at the end. i think they should have put aloisi on earlier.

as for totti: i hate that arrogant prick even more than i did before

The Aussies really should have thrown caution to the wind and attacked the 10 man Italy. I have seen a few teams looking scared to lose the game and they then fail to really attack the opposition. Canavarro was awesome for Italy, the Aussies can be proud though they didn't look like an inferior team at all.

Ukraine/Switzerland, now that was boring!

Proud as punch of our boys... we really should have won that game, despite the red card being unjustified. The referees in this tournament have been as poor as any I have ever seen. Just atrocious. That was never a penalty. Lucas Neil can take heart from being one of, if not THE best defender in the tournament. He was immense and may have won himself a move to a bigger club.

I, for one, will be barracking for Ghana (1-0 down already!). Failing that, I hope the Argies win it as they have Riquelme, who I've always been a big fan of. Brazil are all class but have failed to inspire so far. Time for Ronaldinho to set this tournament alight!

Nah btu what the hell, Australia didn't make more than 2 chances anyway, and the red card was more wrong than the penalty imo.
