Another review of the album, quite fair I thought.

EDIT: Excerpt

Furthermore, the entire 78-minute release is ridiculously earnest and self-important. Every single track practically grabs you by the coatcuffs and screams, "This is IMPORTANT! This music is not for FUN! Don't try to ENJOY IT! Music is SERIOUS BUSINESS! STOP SMILING AT IT!" Of particular fault in this department is the drummer, who sticks in more hippy bongos, talking drums and other limp world music instruments than David Byrne at his most pretentious. And to what effect? Now instead of a strong backbeat, they've got what sounds like a guy throwing his shoe around the room. Good work there, drummer guy. Good planning.
yeah i mean lyrics like "foot in mouth and head up ass" and "god damn, shit the bed" scream "THIS IS IMPORTANT AND NOT FOR FUN" to me too... And if he wants fun music he should stick to Minus the Bear and stop flaming the few bands who take it seriously. I find it shocking that people seem to be expecting Tool to regress back to Undertow with each album but then are bitterly disapointed when tehy dont.

I'm personally getting tired of the gross generalizations about "Tool fans." But, I can't say they're undeserved, either. Oh well.

I guess I've said a couple of times that I like this album. It's not Tool's best or anything, but it's good and I like it. I love the drumming and I like the guitar and I enjoy the lyrics, too. Y'know, a band is going to have a sub-par album. That's the way it happens sometimes. But, this album is far from shitty, or stupid or whatever. It just seems like some people have built it up to be this thing that was going to change lives or whatever. Now that it hasn't people are attacking it and the band and the fans. It's silly to me. If this was Tool's first album people would be too busy to write reviews because they'd have their hands down their pants beating off over how good it is. But, because it follows great albums like Undertow and Aenima it must be terrible.

Sigh. Whatever.

Yup, except I don't think 10,000 Days was a sub-par album since its pretty much exactly what I expected it to be (less angry, more drawn out, otherwise essentially the same ol' Tool). The only thing that really shocked me over the course of the album was Maynard's vocals at the start of Rosetta Stoned and the acappela intro to The Pot.

Prindle is awesome.

His enthusiasm sold me on the Cows. Ridiculously great and underrated band.

NP: Tool - 10.000 Fists.

Still a totally unexiting listening experience. I hate the production and sound of Carey's drums. So powersless, especially the snare. :?

You're crazy, I could listen to just Danny Carrey and Justin Chancellor playing for hours on end. I want VOLTO! to release an album already.

I just got this from a friend. It sounds like every other tool album to me with a bit different quiet building starts.

There is nothing wrong with that; arguably you can say the same about Porcupine trees last two albums. I happen to like that sound. I dont worship P tree, but it sounds good, Im happy with it..

One thing I dont like about Tool is in their brooding, almost sniveling in a dark-corner-emotion they constantly have. I perhaps am not emo or goth enough in the "hardcore Genre" to get it.
Ruthless reviews had a great quote a while back: "Metal is not about being a tortued soul, its supposed to be about torturing souls. what happened"

Its Ok. Im not crazy about tool like some of my friends are. Its just rarely a mood I ever want in music when I listen to it.
