Judging by the posts on here he is up there with Dev regarding vocals.

IMHO I dont hear it! What song are we talking about?

Dont get me wrong, I love his songs but dont see how he is such a great vocalist

There's no way I'd put him up there with Dev, but I do rate his vocals.

I think he's got a lot of versatility and a very distinctive voice, which I always think are key to a good vocalist

Just listen through the albums Angel Dust and King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime. There's your answer.

http://www.youtube.com

Search for "Mr Bungle Air-Conditioned Nightmare". There should be a live video of that song being performed.

And then download these songs from soulseek or limewire or whatever:

Fantomas - Rosemary's Baby
Faith No More - Rv
Faith No More - Easy
Faith No More - Ashes to Ashes
Dillinger Escape Plan - When Good Dogs Do Bad Things
Lovage - Pit Stop

Those should keep you busy :)

Mike is very very different to Dev... I can't compare them, but I can say without any doubt that they are two of the best singers in Rock music... EVER. Both extremely versatile and creative. In very different ways, but both are huge artists IMO.

There are a lot of songs where he does awesome work with vocals. The song 'King for a day' is one of my favourites, then you have cool tracks like 'vanity fair' or crazy shit like 'cukoo for cacca' and all the fantomas stuff, then there's the noise stuff etc etc.

The man is truly a fine musician and if I could steal anyone's vocal cords I'd steal his.

Yeah. Personally, I think he's a better vocalist than Devin Townsend. And his stuff with Mr. Bungle was just fabulous. Some of the greatest music I've ever heard.

Patton is god. I certaintly think he is better than Dev at singing, it is more Devins sound that gets me going.

Though not a huge follower of Patton, I am in awe of his vocal abilities. His voice is what attracts me to FNM. My favourite track is probably 'Malpractice'...the harmony bit towards the end gives me goosebumps.

Likewise, check out the Dillinger Escape Plan EP he did...it has some stunning stuff.

I think the place I find him most interesting is actually his work on the last Bjork CD...some really bizarre things there too.

I guess people respect his vocal abilities because he has such a varied approach to his work. I think he has done a bit of everything at one time or another. Whether you appreciate it all, you certainly have to respect him for trying so many things.

Yep yep yep.

Mike Patton is one of the best vocalists of the "rock" scene. Being a Devin Townsend fanboi is cool - I am one. But that doesn't make me disregard the ablilities and achievements of other outstanding and unique performers. Patton a better singer than Dev? Probably. At least both play in the same premier league without a doubt.

Patton's best vocal performance: the b-side track "Das Schutzenfest"!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

Just kidding.

Yeah, I'd have to give natural vocal talent to Patton. Devin's someone you really can't compare to Patton though. Patton's more based on being the most versatile singer to ever walk this planet. Devin is more based on intensity. It really depends on what you really want though, even down to their screams.
