I bought Terrorizer magazine today with a sole purpose: to hear the new track from Ihsahns new solo record which is Called By The Fire.

I dig it, it is different yet reflective of his past work but I can't help but be disappointed somewhat. The best parts are when Ihsahn starts to delve back into his past and does what he does past; that gravelly voice!!!
The rest of the song was fairly...weak, although I did think Ihsahns vocals were very fitting for once. They were a little out of place in Peccatum.

Any other thoughts on Ihsahns return to metal proper?

I heard "Called By The Fire" on my local metal radio show Monday night.
Sounds good.

Definitely will check this out.

I don't really like Ihsahn's new record. It's very similar to the later Emperor records (as I half-expected), and I could never seem to get into them. I'm more of a fan of the earlier works of Emperor, like In the Nightside Eclipse, and Anthems...

I see Prometheus as the greatest black metal record of all time, so I have no issues there...

I don't think the solo album sounds anything like Prometheus. To my ears, it sounds more like the first Peccatum album minus Ihriel and with slightly better sound quality.

I have to admit I was put off by the poor sound quality of The Adversary, and not all songs are very strong either. For an album that was worked on 1,5 years, it sure sounds rushed, compared to the absolute stunning musicianship and ideas that he had on Prometheus (practically his solo album too).

The track Homecoming feat. Trickster G (of Ulver) is great! Elsewise its fancypancy Peccatum/Prometheus-ish stuff.

Did you download the copy I put up, or get it from somewhere else? The one I ^ed wasn't great quality.

I got it from elsewhere. I'm not talking about compression quality (192 kbit), but rather the sound of the studio & recording.

Damn, this album sucked. This is the sound of a pretentious ego completely out of control.

I got the album and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Reminds me of both Emperor and Peccatum, especially the more operatic, high pitched singing.

I thought the production was lacking at first but the songs themselves are quality.
Homecoming is a personal fave.
