Never under estimate the power of a smile
"Gaia" grows and grows! And I actually dig the odd snare sound. And great cymbal work indeed.
Ah, the guitar at 3:30!
Is this one of the more straight forward songs

OMG YOU'RE IN THE BAND AND YOU DOWNLOADED THE LEAK?!?!?!/!?!?!
SHAME ON YOU!!!!1111one
I managed to dl Synchestra ( I know, shame on me ), and I just can't get enough of it!! For the moment my favourite seems to be Pixillate, but there are many other contenders( Vampolka/ Vampira, Gaia, Triumph, Notes from Africa...). The whole album is reminiscent of Devin's earlier works, especially Ocean Machine, Infinity and Terria, which have always been, in my opinion, his best projects ( I like Strapping because it's Devin , but I prefer his smoother side). No need to say that I will prowl my nearest music store until I get my hands on the new edition ( Whoever said downloading killed artists? )
Les pattes du canard sont courtes , il est vrai , mais les allonger ne lui servirait à rien ( vieux proverbe chinois).
Short. Very Short.
But if you go to amazon you'll find 28 seconds of low-fi shit which very poorly represents Synchestra.
Oh yeah you need to go to the UK site. Apparently noone's told 'em not to preview the album.

Can I deprive my brain of oxygen?!
Hmm.. the samples sound horrible.
I haven't heard the actual songs but I'm sure they don't sound like this.

Same here, I haven't downloaded anything other than those samples and they do indeed sound terrible. Must be about 16k sample rate on those puppies. Ick.
Just thought I'd let people know, but I kept it in here because when it comes to spoilers I'd say those samples do it with aplomb; they're total shite.
In fact had I never heard Devin I think those samples would put me right off.
Is there anything that Devin can do to improve them? I usually appreciate the short samples Amazon stick on their site because it shows how misguided some of the reviews are. I'd have bought a lot of crap without them.
However, I don't think the Synchestra samples are very good marketing at all.

Pre-ordered the Standard version of Synchestra on the 13th.
And it arrived a few minutes ago.

How'd ya manage that?? Is there some secret mailman handshake that enables you to get your hevydevy package a week ahead of everyone else?
Anyway, what's the verdict on the complete package (artwork etc) now that it's in your hot little hands?
Well, firstly I pre-ordered from HDR once it was announced that pre-orders were being taken (13th). Secondly, as I said it is only ("only" ...not a word I can use easily here) the basic Synchestra, not the DVD edition.
The artwork therefore, is limited to the lyric booklet...but quite spectacular and organic. Carries the theme of this skin to even better standards. Together, Geoff and Omer have created quite a warm and embracing visual splendor.
And the music...the music is magnificent.
The Devin Townsend BAND have taken an enormous leap since we last heard them on Accelerated Evolution, as has Devin as a songwriter. So many moods and textures contained in those 14 tracks...awesome to finally hear Notes From Africa after so many years...
There are familiar little signatures of everything from OM to Alien, perhaps the closing of an era...perhaps something that points the way to an even greater one. I've listened to this album 6 times already since I got it this afternoon, and I believe it has the potential to be the greatest work in Dev's catalogue thus far. His band are all well on song, with a far greater showing of their vast talent range than was exhibited on AE. Brilliance, it is.
...but those of you yet to either download or receive the album shall find this all out soon enough...

It could never be soon enough for me. And I still have a few weeks to wait. It's gonna drive me up a wall.

Hearing him; yet his hintings of disaster
Shamed me to valour, as a hind may be
Bold in the presence of an honoured master."
