i agree totally :D
I disagree  , they peaked at Still Life and have been going downhill ever since!!!

For me:

I second Meshuggah
Devin Townsend's solo work
Gojira
Nevermore
In Flames JUST KIDDING HAR HAR HAR

that's all I can think of right now

I do think Opeth's newest record is the best of them all, but I dont think the two releases before were as strong as their older work. So while I would like to agree, I have to disagree. I love Damnation, and Deliverance was decent, but they dont quite compare with MAYH, Still Life, or Blackwater Park.

ominousnocturna: A lot of people will disagree with you about In Flames, but im not one of them. I feel as though the old In Flames was (GASP) a little boring. It was just those melodic gothenberg riffs just done over and over and over. The new stuff, while a little more mainstream, is more song oriented and is not all over the place. I listened to the new cd (download!!) once, and I really like it. I had to sample it before I bought it after the last album, which seemed to be going in the wrong direction a little. But the new one is good and I really like it. I have one of the vocal parts stuck in my head, but im gonna wait for it to come out before I start really listening to it.

And SYL, I also have to disagree. City was a lot better than SYL, and it was earlier. And I think that Alien is better than City, but only by personal preference. I dont think that they had a better formula or wrote better songs, it just hit me in a better way than City, making Alien in my top 2 or 3 albums ever made.

Clutch
Lamb of God
Nevermore
Pantera

Thats about it. The horrible trend seems to be that they go from good to bad. I wish it wasnt so, because im really looking forward to the new BLS, but Zakk has been going downhill since Stronger Than Death.

Yeah definitely porcupine tree, although I think in abesntia might just pip deadwing for their best album....

I agree with opeth, don't really care much for their early albums, but blackwater park onwards are brilliant. I think Blackwater Park is their best album followed by the new one....

Meshuggah lastest 4 releases are all on par for me.

Dilinger Esacpe Plan!

But Tool have definitely gotten better with each release, lets wait and see for thie new one ay.

No way! Morningrise is an awesome record, Still Life is their best (the best ever) and Ghost Reveries sucks!

Totally agree with you about the first 2 but GR doesnt suck...it's a bit too clean digital for my taste though.

At the gates. They reeeally sucked in the beginning, but ended with the now classic Slaughter of the soul.

Obvious pick, the Beatles.

Pink Floyd.

I really love meddle. But the stone cold classics of 'the wall', 'dark side' and 'wish you were here' just loom over the early period stuff. Then it all went downhill again.

I really dig what the Boredoms have been up to lately since EYE has gone totally batshit sun worshipping insane.

The Stooges second album kicked the crap out of the first, and if you're a 'Raw Power' fan I guess you could consider them to have only gotten better during their short career.

Though I see 'Panopticon' as not much of a leap forward (still pretty fucking awesome though) ISIS have definitely become immeasurably more subtle over their career.

Bathory? I love the viking stuff more than the early black metal, Quorthon even had a real creative comeback just before he died.

Refused.
AtDI
Tom Waits.
The Drive-by Truckers.

Yay me! My Opeth comment stirred shit up! Now let's play blabbermouth!

FUCK YOU ALL HATERS SUCK YOUR DICK METALLICA WAS THE GREATEST!!!!11!1ONEELEVEN

Okay, sorry 'bout that. The blabbermouthing in that other thread 'round christmas was enough for me. :P

But seriously, "Morningrise" and "Orchid" just doesn't do it for me. The other stuff I love though, if any comfort? :P

Someone was talking about In Flames. I prefer the stuff from "Whoracle" and newer. "Soundtrack..." was a big disappointment to me, but "Come Clarity"(yes I dl'd it) seems like a great album. Surely going to the store for that one!

BTW: Ordered "Synchestra" and "Ocean Machine" yesterday. Can't wait! OM is the shit, and "Synchestra"... well, after reading that post of Devin I'm guessing it will be glorious.

Some Black Metal for me is quite timeless

Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss

Dark Throne - Under A funeral Moon

Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse

Emperor - Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk

I know Anthems isnt that old, but it will be more appreciated as time passes
