Random order.

Ulver - Blood Inside
Nattefrost - Terrorist Nekronaut Pt.1
Sigh - Gallows Gallery
Deathspell Omega - Kénôse
Exodus - Shovel Headed Kill Machine
Sunn 0))) - Black One
Shining - IV The Eerie Cold

Not including Alien, Catch 33 nor Ghost Reveries. Those were all big disappointments.
Alien didnt do shit for me, thus I cant honestly say I've tried hard (enough).
Catch 33 using midi instead of Haake?! WTF is that?
And Opeth just repeating themselves.

Catch 33 doesn't use midi. The drums were sequenced, using real drum samples (Drumkit From Hell). And Meshuggah have done that before, parts of I were sequenced.
Meshuggah have always used drum sequencing for album rehearsals and recordings, but Haake used to record drumtracks "live" in the end. But sequenced they sound just as good as as "real" recording (which often uses triggered samples as well) so what's the point in investing time and money in doing it all over again?

And I'm not a great fan of Ghost Reveries, but I don't think Opeth are repeating themselves. Ghost Reveries is different from any other album they've made. There are similarities of course, because it's the same band.

Well, the sequenced drums sound close to the real thing, I'll give you that. But if you listen closely enough, you can hear that the cymbals are sampled. I completely disagree that it sounds just as good. It's something about the acoustics that's not right.
Meshuggah shouldn't need to compromise anything when recording an album.
I mean, how much blood/sweat or money/time are you willing to sacrifice during the process? Clearly not enough, it seems like the easy way out. Expecially when they got Haake, clearly one of the best!
But hey, it clearly worked! Many people are really enjoying it, and I respect that. But for me, a certain important element is missing. And that ruins the expierience.

In Opeths case, they havent "musically leaped" as much from Deliverance/Damnation to Ghost Reveries that I've hoped for. Sounds too much the previous records, which Im sick and tired of. The album isn't bad, just not as good as expected.

I really like your attitude here, and I do agree with you to an extent. Just less of an extent than you dislike these albums.

Personally, my mum loves both C.33 and G.R.

The other night I got bored, and decided I wanted to buy a bunch of new CDs, hopefully some of them by unfamiliar bands. I went into a somewhat old thread on this forum, that was dedicated to making recommendations, and it was actually your post about said album that convinced me to investigate further, and to then buy it!
