I just found myself at the back of the cinema with April from the choir and wine that she sneaked in...I think that's a bit better than popcorn B)
Were those seats in the back any good? I just ended up sitting in the middle.
All we're offering is a chance to be loved.
Yeah man, been to PCC bunch of times before (If you saw the events planner you can tell I've got a godawful taste in films that can only be catered for by that place), I usually sit in the middle or at the back.
So all these clips I've seen of these DVDs don't sound very live to me. Sounds like there was a lot of post-production, which is so typical on live albums these days. That tends to suck the power--the life--out of the performance, you know. So I'm kinda bummed by this.
Devin is fantastic live, but he's not that good, you know. And for those feeling the need to defend Devin right now, that's not an insult to the man (clearly, as I previously stated he was fantastic live), but these are sounding like studio tracks to me. I am basing this only on the YouTube clips, as my box set hasn't arrived, but I'm assuming those are fairly accurate of the overall production of the actual DVDs.
Hopefully I'm prematurely disappointed.

I don't have the boxset yet, but what I heard at the screening didn't sound disturbingly too different from the shows. Maybe I'm not enough of an audiophile to notice...but that also means that I don't really care regardless. The shows were good, the DVD is good. All good?
Dev uses pre-recorded tracks live, and I know at least Dev's guitar is run straight into the board. Because of this, some tracks won't have that "live" sound.
Oh, I know he has pre-recorded tracks going, but the clips just don't sound live to me; they sound produced, you know. I've seen Devin enough times in a live setting to know he's not perfect, but he sounds perfect on the clips I've seen.

I know what you mean, some of the backing tracks and pre-recorded vocals make it sound a bit produced. But there's a still plenty raw live action there, you definitely notice the occasional fluffed guitar line or vocals mishap, by a thread indeed! Fair play to Dev though for even attempting the 4 albums live thing!

His festival/English rig is quite a bit more elaborate than most of his US tour rigs (I think October 2011 being the exception)
Dude goes for a larger than life sound

Yeah, skimmed through the DVDs yesterday, it really jumps at you in many places. It's okay on Ki - but in more layered places (Addicted and Decon, mainly) it indeed doesn't sound like a live performance. I'm not sure if we ever hear the backing singers in Decon - backing vocals sound like a choir track taken from album. Either they went really overboard with backing tracks volume and they strangled everything or there's just way too much post-production.
the choir on decon were busted or the album chior in there, as were when I was there I couldn't hear them during Pandemic. Still sounds good though i'm glad you can hear them as it give it such a nice feel

I think they were layers on the album choir.
