There's desensitization in anything you indulge too much in. Music is no different. I burn out if I listen to nothing but metal for a long period of time, and then can't stand hearing it for at least a month or two, maybe more.

It forced me to explore, to find other things that I could enjoy. Through this I discovered so many different genres of music that I found redeeming qualities in.

The only two genres I couldn't find anything in were rap and country...I gave them both concerted efforts to enjoy, I really did, I just don't see it.

Anyway, through all this music-hopping, I now have a healthy mix of a bunch of genres on any playlist/cd I create, and it helps keep everything fresh. The cd in my car right now has a few songs of these genres:

-metal (syl-meshuggah)
-hardcore (scott brown)
-gabber (neophyte)
-d&b (omni trio)
-Jazz (Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong)
-Video Games (various)

That's a pretty huge spectrum of sound for a single cd. I don't get tired of anything anymore, and I'm an infinitely more dynamic person musically now than I was before (obviously). Lots of members here already said they went through the same thing, I'm sure Devin is no different.

The redeeming quality to this evolutionary path for Devin to us as fans is that fans across all of his musical styles will get their fix of what they liked best from him, every album or two.

I personally hope that Deconstruction remains as heavy as possible, it's been a while. Ziltoid was the closest thing to an syl fix I've had in a long while.

EDIT: Are any of the drummers you've gathered so far Gene Hoglan? <3

No. It can be found throughout this thread (and probably others), but he's said that he doesn't have any immediate plans to work with any of the SYL guys. He hasn't said that it will NEVER happen, but definitely that it's NOT happening for this album. Go through his posts to get all the details.

EDIT: and if you were joking about that, well....

Joke's on me, I guess.

Relatively new to the forum, so that was a legitimate question.

That's too bad.

Not a genre.
Sort of is actually. There is a definite common style in a lot of games. Not all but many.

Yeah, video game music is as much of a category as any other kind of music. The main difference is though that within the realm of video game music, things can be broken down into other existing genres, such as rock, classical, 8-bit, techno, etc. So while it exists as kind of an "all-incompassing" genre, it also exists as a collection of genres. Its just like what Skeksis states: "...a multiverse is just one thing!"

Well the actual guitar tone is closer to Meshuggah, but it does sound like Katatonia a bit yeah. But the guitar tone is way better.

It'll sound like the end of his video here, because that's a direct preview of this song. http://www.youtube.com/user/poopynuggeteer#p/u/9/ULhz423h_nI
