Wasn't Devin talking about bringing in Big Gene to lay down the heaviest of heavy drum tracks before he started recording the project? I can definitely see them getting together again, and I love the idea of bringing Gavin Harrison in and then Devin and Steven working together on the 4th album! Gavin is finally getting the recognition he deserves for his unique style of drumming! Devin and Steven together would make another Opeth's 'Damnation'! That would be phenomenal!!!

That was just a 6-string variation of Planet Smasher, sort of what Stand is like as well. From what I can hear.

Well, Steven Wilson and Mikael Akerfeldt worked together in the studio when Opeth was writing 'Damnation',' if you didn't know that... Steven Wilson is the Guitarist/ Singer for a band called Porcupine Tree, which have very mellow parts in most of their songs. Sooo if you have Steven Wilson in the studio with Devin Townsend, I have a great feeling as Devin described his 4th album as the most calming. Which 'Damnation,' was most certainly the most mellow of Opeth's albums, then there is no way that my comment couldn't make sense. If Steven Wilson comes into the picture with the Devin Townsend Project, then Steven Wilson is gonna bring that same vibe to Devin's 4th album, as he did with 'Damnation.' I don't think I need to make myself any clearer than that...

Yeah I know who they are and that they worked together on D&D. But this is Devin's record, not Steven's. Why would Devin bring him in on the songwriting process anyway?

To bring a new sound to the Devin's project, that's why, and I think they would work great together. They're both brilliant musicians! Steven came in to produce and helped with both of Opeth's albums and they never became Steven's albums. Devin brought in Anneke van Giersbergen for 'Addicted.' So just by her laying down some vocal tracks and being part of the album should make it her album?... Cause that's what you're making it sound like if Steven were to come in and do the same thing that Anneke did... It's Devin's Project, it's Devin's album. Artists bring in guest musicians all the time. So how would Devin's 4th album become Steven's album if Steven was just coming in to bring new light to the project? I think it would be amazing to bring Devin and Steven together on DEVIN'S 4th album of DEVIN'S project. They would have amazing ideas!

It makes me grin thinking of someone like Steven collaborating with Devin as well but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. As far as I know Devin's music is deeply personal and it would just not make sense to bring SW into the creation process unless he was going to do just vocals or guitar. To be honest I'm not sure how they would fit together... very different styles. Even with their own ambient music.

Nashty, you sound like a babbling crazy person. I mean trust me that idea sounds like awesome and everything (I'm pretty sure a lot of us here listen to Porcupine Tree too), but I'm pretty sure if something like this had been in the works it would be far more discussed than an aside in a topic about a different musical project.

I like Steven Wilson a lot though :P

I've seen him live a few months ago (after Ithyphallic) and he stunk up the place. Anyone can drum properly in a studio for recording an album. The just just couldn't pull it off live on stage.

And if Dev wants to make the 4th record full of children's songs, he should invite Wilson, he has the perfect voice for that. He could also re-use the Addicted cover.

Children's songs, eh?
I'd love to hear an album full of Devy-esque Play School tunes!

Hellhammer's good, but I can't stand his constant changes of bands.
Oooh, what about Flo Mounier? Gravity blasts on Deconstruction would be epic.
